I just watched bio TV on Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash last night. Good stuff w/ original film footage. I love the Glen Cambell's "Wichita Lineman". He was so young & good looking then! Take a look:

Hank Williams, he was the trendsetter. Country music wouldn't exist in its current form without him. Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Patsy Cline were all unbelievable talents.

I agree with a lot of the above.

He's 80's, but I always liked John Conlee.

"Always on My Mind" Just a quick question: Elvis or Willie? IMO sweet Willie takes the show & his back phrasing works so well w/ the song.

Fool Hearted Memory is always near the top spot in pre-garth brooks country, as is All My Exes Live in Texas.

You just can't have country without those two

As a kid I grew up loving country, along with other genres.

I would say around '94 is when country started going downhill. "Texas Country" was good when it was in it's infancy. I have general dislike of it for a good number of years now. I went to Ziegenbock festival earlier this month and it SUCKS! Every band sounds exactly the same. Exactly.

I'm a huge fan of classic country...really some of the best most passionate music there is. I also like soul, blues, and some reggae/ska from the same era.

    Check out this song

    "There stands the glass
That will ease all my pain
    That will settle my brain
It's my first one to day

    "There stands the glass
That will hide all my tears
That will drown all my fears
    Brother, I'm on my way"

Just a quick metion for bluegrass as well - Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Doc Watson, the Carters, Tony Rice and my sweetheart, Alison Krauss and the best bluegrass band ever, Union Station.

And yes, I even love the Statlers.

If you ever get to hear the recording of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with Johnny Cash, June Carter, Chris Hillman, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris Roseanne Cash Chet Atkins, Earl Scrugs and generally everybody, doing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken", you don't have a heart if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye.

I saw George Jones about a year ago. I thought it was going to be a great show. I even had my wife excited, BUT it turned out to be a 1 hour show. WTF. 50 years of music and ONLY 1 hour. ALOT of people were also suprised that it was such a short show. Hank Jr also used to have really good concerts and his many hits that are classics.

Not fond of a lot of this stuff, some of it is great, but I've always liked Willie Nelson's cover of 'Me and Bobby McGee'. It's better than Janis Joplin's version.
