Really nice videos. I love the point by from the BMW while he is spinning, classic.

What kind of camera setup are you running.

    Thanks,

I used to run with speedventures a lot when I lived in SoCal. Looked like you were running about ~1:48s? Do you think your scud could have taken the 8/9 turn complex flat if they hadn't paved it to straighten out those turns? What tires are you running?

I ran 1:45.5s in my miata on NT01 there for redline's time attack there 2 weeks ago.

Oh, and its funny, the track forums I frequent also have vids posted of that GT40. Fast in a straight line but blowing turns and not letting "lesser" cars by. Looks like you didn't have that problem. :)

    Best,
    Matt

Amazing lap time with the Miata!!!

I ran a 1:47.1 later on the day, results are posted in the SV website and I have it in my Traqmate as well. I had traffic in every lap, the 1:47.1 was with traffic in the inner straight, using the same segment from another lap without traffic in the inner straight, Traqmate shows a 1:46.5. These laps were done on Hoosier A6.

Earlier in the day, I ran Toyo R888 which are a hard track compound similar to your NT-01. The best I could lap Cal Speedway was 1:50.2, with 1:49s possible. On wider Michelin PSC, R888 or NT-01 with the right wheels, the car could drop another 0.5 to 0.7 secs from the 1:49s but not more than that.

The biggest handicap is the stability on Turn 1/2, the car needs a lot of downforce (a wing). My GT3 RS had a minimum speed through 1 and 2 of 137mph, while the Scuderia goes at 125-127mph, for such a long section that hurts lap times.

I wanted to run the Redline Time Attack, but the F430 is automatically bumped to Unlimited class, and there is no chance to keep up with 1000+ rwhp cars with a Scuderia producing low to mid 400s rwhp.

Turns 8/9 can be taken flat easily with the 430 with the configuration used by Redline at the Time Attack, the car is very stable on transitions (slaloms), it pushes on sweepers, it is loose on high speed turns due to aero constraints.

    Stef,

I use a Traqmate Complete, with a RPM signal wired to an unused connector available in the 360 and 430. I prefer the systems that don't touch the ECU, keep in mind that the F430 uses two ECUs, so the AIM may need a lot of wiring into the ECUs.

    Thanks Rad,

It's an interesting solution you're using. On which connector in the F430 do you wire the Traqmate?

If you have a look to the pdf link, you'll see that the SmartyCam is a very straight forward solution. The Logger is plugged directedly to the OBD connector and is using the Can H/L signals to get all the info. No wiring and no direct wiring to the ECU's neither. It connects into the Can bus and gets the info from all the ECU's who are talking on the Can Bus. That's why I like this solution. I don't know about the image quality but from the video's I've seen, it looks good.

I got pretty irritated that the GTR passed you at one point. Glad you overtook him quickly after :) You hit 1.2g during braking into turn 1 which impressed me. That telemetry is absolutely awesome, I'm sure you've watched some of that film to see how you could improve, that is such a cool tool to have! Great job.

I was just coasting in the infield waiting for the GTR to be in front of me so I could have a decent drag race on the Speedway. Notice my speed in the inner straight is around 100 mph, when the Scuderia reaches almost 140mph in the same section on a hot lap. I did the same with a Ford GT earlier in the day.

One of the nice features of California Speedway is to be able to drag race from 80mph up to 160mph on the main straight coming from the infield.

So far the fastest straight line car I have seen was a lightly modified 2009 Viper ACR, they are extremely fast in straight line, I need an Enzo to be able to keep up with one of those on the straights. The Ford GT is an even race on straight line with the Scuderia, the GTR/Z06/GT3 are slower than the Scuderia. I haven't had a chance to drag race a new GT2 yet, but it should be pretty close.
