I bet you all thought the infamous Craigslist 308 GT4 had fallen off the face of the earth, but it's still being tinkered on...now by a local F-car expert. Just got a report back...looks like distributors are fine and carbs are way out of whack (just in balancing). Plus the exhaust leak still isn't fixed.

But here's a new one: the clutch is almost entirely shot. ARRRGGGGH!!!

I think it was on its last legs, but I had to really ride it getting the car up my hill and then situated on the car dolly.

So who has the best price these days on clutches? I'm guessing that (without looking at the shop manual) I should probably just pay to have it swapped, rather than doing it myself.

I have had plates resurfaced all the time. It cost about 20 bucks a plate! Check out any local "friction materials co" like Friction Materials Co 1425 Santa Fe Avenue
    Long Beach, CA 90813-1291
    (562) 436-4224.

But be very specific with them. Let them know the compressed thickness and uncompressed thickness of the plate and let them know you will send it back to them if it is out of spec. and let them know they will need to grind some of their facing material to get the right spec.. And before they ship it ask them specifically did you check the thicknesses andare they in spec because I'm going to send the plate back to you if it is not. They are good but lazy.

You can also try fort wayne clutch in indiana

In the UK a new clutch for a GT4 is only about £400 fitted, which makes it cheaper than an awful lot of modern cars.

I've had the clutch on my gt4 replaced and I think the job on these cars is actually easier (labor wise) than a front engined north south configuration in which you may have to drop the tranny. I think a clutch is a relatively simple process on these cars. Good luck.

    Sammy,

Looks like I'll be up your way the weekend of Jan 16-17. Will you be around?

    Should I bring some tools!?

    P.S. who's the "local expert"?
