    Hi All

I got an e-mail and a phone call from a friend in L.A. this morning. The e-mail gave the link to the Craigslist ad:

    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/2664723594.html

We talked about the car a bit and he made plans to go out and look at it. He called later in the afternoon with a report. It is a mix of good and bad. I think he said the mileage was 27K. The paperwork was an issue. I believe the present owner only has an application for duplicate title. The seller was motivated. He said that if my friend took it right away, he could have the car for $1200. It seems cheap, but as we all know, it will get expensive quickly. My friend left and is thinking about it, but we were in agreement that there were too many unknowns. Still, it could be a good project for the adventurous. The parts are worth the cost.

    Aloha

$1,200?? Buy it! Dismantle it! Sell the parts! This crap is more worth in parts than as a whole car!

    Ciao!

Looks like a nice early one. No matter what you start with.... A $1200 squatter or a $5000 runner, a sorted example without paint will end up at around $10k if u do most of it yourself and the engine has decent compression. Headgaskets, suspension bushings/ball joints, seals in the rack & pinion and Transmission unfortunately just go bad with age :(
    Hopefully u can rescue it.

    Best of luck

    Charles

    Hi All

Boy, I know! There is a good deal there for the parts. I am a little too far away. My friend is very tempted, but he would have to have the car in his driveway which would not be welcome in the neighborhood or he would have to move his nice Alfa out of the garage. He made a comment about the interior was so nice he could live in the car. I said that if he brought it home, his wife might make him live in it. He said that might be true....;>)

Anyway, if anyone is interested, jump on the deal. Don't feel any hesitance because he has looked at the car.

The listing is back up for $1500.

    Hi

Is the car in drivable condition? I see the paint on the roof is bubbled away but is there any rust on the car?

Looks a little rough, but as noted, if you have the time to part out, it's worth it.

    Hi William

No, the car does not run. The owner said that there was no fuel delivery, but when they fed fuel from a can to the carbs, the engine did start. The timing of that little exercise was very uncertain, a year or two ago. As you can see, the mountain of uncertainties is high. I am pretty sure that my friend would have bought the car if he knew that it would start and drive. Of course, if that were true, the price would likely be higher.

The roof and hood have substantial surface rust from having a canvas over the car which trapped moisture underneath. Other than that, there is very little rust. My friend said he could find only a single, small rust hole. We all know that there is always more rust than what is visible. Still, I think the rust would be very manageable.

I made him an offer, I would have to come from Denver to pick it up so offered a bit less. Hopefully he will sell it and not take my offer :) But I can use the parts.

I hope you didn't offer less than the $1,200 already mentioned.

In those pictures the seats still looked pretty good.

Were you going to part it? May be worth fixing but if you are I may be interested in some key bits to put in my back up store! Let me know as I can move on this now but could not before.

In these hard financial times people are dumping cars left and right. I feel its my duty to snag them up and at least keep them stored in a dry safe climate. But to answer your question, too many :) I have a patient wife :)

If he accepts my offer, I will evaluate the car, if its worth saving I will at least get it into a condition where it doesn't continue to deteriorate as much, but if its too far gone, I will part it out. I need some for my QP and I will gladly share.

Too be honest I did, As you know these cars in running/ driving condition can be purchased for 2500- 4500 easily.

For me to arrange to pick up the car in LA and ship it either here or to my warehouse in PA would cost about as much as buying a driver.

He states in the add he is moving and needs it gone, I hope he gets is asking price and I dont have to worry about it, but if not, I can be his back up and he get some cash and the very least, I get a parts car or the car gets moved into dry clean storage.

Another problem is the lack of title, I purchased my other QP III with title problems (Rhode Island doesnt have title for cars of this vintage) I took me a year and tons of paperwork to get a PA title.. Not worth it in my opinion for this car.

Well I expect that guys like Joedro will offer more than that?

It's just so sad to see these cars left to rot like this.

I agree, these cars are amazing cars, I am very glad to own a rust free great driving example. I plan to keep it forever.

I hope someone offers more and restores it,,

I see the seller has changed his ad and has raised the asking price to $2100.

It looks like he has pumped up the tires. The car is also listed in the Orange County Craig's List and, in that ad, he states "low cost to register"

LOL, He stated earlier is had not title, so NO cost to register.. :) Title issues are a nightmare and if its registered in California, its a huge nightmare unless its titled in his name and he applies for a lost title.

    Anyway, hope it sells..

    Gents,
I bought the QP on the phone for less than $1,200. I had a trucking company pick it up this morning and it is on its way to Texas at the moment.
The title problem did give me pause but after I talked to CA DMV and TX DMV and it didn't sound too bad. BTW according to the information provided by the seller, technically this a one owner car - title was never changed.
    Regards
    Jorge

    Hi Jorge

It is very good to hear that the car has been rescued. I hope you'll satisfy our curiosity about the car's condition when you have had some time to examine it.

Thanks. Once I have the car in my possession I will post a better description and some pictures.
Perhaps someone here (Walter ahem ahem) has some information on this car based on the VIN - which I'll post later.

    Jorge...

Congratulations on the car... For what you paid for it, I think it's
a steal... The parts alone are worth more, and if you decide to get
it back on the road again, the initial investment isn't bad!!!

    Thanks for saving her!!!
