Jesse Dayton wrote a song about getting ripped off in Houston..."Harris County Blues" They knocked the hinge pins out of the van doors, to get in..leaving the doors on the ground. He never saw the guitar again, and pointed toward the Rio Grande.
Im sure you are absolutely sick. Nothing better to get a lost pedigree dog or cat back than offer a cash reward. Thief just thinks they have a pretty guitar w/ Gibson name. They will welcome cash over trying to pawn especially when they find out value is shot to Hell since not original. On any day they are really needing that junk or crack fix. Best of luck to you.
Jimmy Page had a 1960 Black Gibson Les Paul Custom (with Bigsby Tremolo) stolen in 1970. An ad was placed by Page for the recovery of this highly modified instrument, but the guitar was never recovered. In 2008 the Gibson Custom Shop produced a limited run of 25 re-creations of the guitar, each with a Bigsby Tremolo and a new custom 6-way toggle switch. Scum bags.
Man o man!! That really, truely sucks!!!!! I have a very nice collection of guitars, I hope none of them get stolen. Over time my kids will inherit them and I am also looking forward to playing them for the next 50+ yrs. I hope something good comes of this, I really do!
I know that. I was just making a statement as the the prices in the early 70's and many of the Gibson and Fender's of those years are quite valuable too!
Umm ... A 1953 gold top Les Paul can cost $55,000 these days! http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/Gibson-Les-Paul-Gold-Top-Stoptail-1953.html Of course, that is only half the price of the $110k 1957 Les Paul they have for sale: http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/products/Gibson-Les-Paul-Gold-Top-1957.html I believe this is why the CL poster makes such a big deal of saying his '53 Les Paul guitar "is not a gold top". .
The guy who stole this stuff is ****** and should be thrown off a large sharp faced hill. Will keep my eyes peeled. MB
That and the fact that it is VERY HEAVILY modified. Think "Ferrari" - the value will be very considerably lower for not being close to original. But I'd still peg it North of $10k to a knowledgeable collector. Jedi (I own a dozen guitars, including some oldies - so have a framework on which to base this)
The L5 has always been my absolute favorite guitar and I am hopeful to own one one of these days. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I tried this KNOWING who had it and never got it back..... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=276332&highlight=les+paul
Wow, you know someone too, eh? I had a friend - plays bass out of 'Pedro - his entire band was wiped out in Canada - Montreal or Toronto, I forget which. He had a '63 Gibby. Cops said it's pretty normal in Canada - most likely all of there stuff is in a container on a ship on its' way to Russia by the time they finished taking the report.
+1 I couldn't imagine if any of mine got stolen. Let alone one that's been mine and is of a value to my self as this guys guitar is. I genuinely hope he gets it back. And may karma be a mega ***** to the guy who stole it.
