I just rec'd my 2 xr3000 units & was reading the installation manual when I thought I'd ask the experienced experts here a question or 2. The manual says to disassemble the dizzy, it looks to me like I just have to remove the bearing cage & bearing below the rotor to install the trigger & wheel. Any advice would be helpful from those that have traveled this path before.
    thanks

I think that "disassemble" means to remove the points. You are on the right track but it would be helpful to test each distributors advance on a distributor machine before removing the points (Most distributor machines won't function with the Crane system installed) in case they need work. If they don't advance smoothly at exactly the right rate, you won't be getting your money's worth out of the Crane kits.

In general, that is excellent advise. In this case, if all you are doing is installing the Crane system and that your advance is already acceptable before, then just disassemble the points and their base plate, install the pick up from the crane and go. If you really want to disassemble the weights springs and clean them up, just make sure you take good notes and place them back exactly the same way with all the shims in the same place.

Do one dizzy at a time so that if you need to refer back to the other one, you have one to fall back on.

When you are done, set up static timing and you will be just about there when it is runnning.

i did this to my black carb 308, i did a thread with pics. we installed both pickups in one dizzy, the spacing for the eyes had to be 135 degrees apart. this way only 1 dizzy was the master, and its advance mechanism was used, while the other dizzy was there just to channel the signals. i know of 3 308's we did this way with no issues.

I used the Crane 700 setup instead of the 3000. Plus I used the Crane coils along with it (a must i think)

Worked great. Just make sure you route the wires good so the pickup won't move inside the dizzy.

Any number of coils will work. My tech used Bosch blue coils with the Crane XR700. Car ran wonderfully, and started easily.
