http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc6MqgjIVSI In the video they claim that is a rebodied 365.. I think it is a Z car based replica. Anyone know the car? Image Unavailable, Please Login
It is a Z car. I have owned 5 of these older Z cars. The dead give aways are: the rear hatchback lines instead of a solid rear window with a truck lid the interior shows the hatch struts for the above mentioned hatch the ignition key location and angle at the steering column are totally Z car. the passenger side seat belt has a plastic piece that Z cars had in the belt to hang the belt on a hook out of the passenger's way when getting in & out...in the days before retractable belts...Z car again. outside door handles are stock Z car it MAY have a Ferrari V12 under the hood, but it is more than likely a 350 V8 The kit used was called an Alpha GTO for awhile....I have seen one of these up close & they do look good. The comments section says they claim that the car has Datsun parts, but a Ferrari chassis...too bad they forgot that the Datsun Z car is a uni-body chassis...so how did they add a Ferrari chassis there...I call total BS
Now, why this guy was allowed to enter the "all-Italian" Automezzi show today is beyond me. He WAS, to his credit, honest about it being a Pontiac Fiero. I don't take my Ferrari to kit-car shows. . . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I saw a yellow F40 at Kmart the other day that looked about as authentic as that F50... I thought about going for a spin but decided I couldn't fit haha Image Unavailable, Please Login
That car belongs to Michelle and Haley in Chicagoland and is totally amazing. They built it themselves and even converted it to right-hand drive, just to be different!
Wow that's horrible. The real pity is probably a lot of people came by the show and thought they saw a real F50.
If they did, they didn't look very closely: 1. Very obvious Fiero dashboard and controls - the leather embossed seats that read "F50" in neon-yellow did nothing to make the interior look authentic. 2. Tiny brake rotors were visible between the spokes of the obviously undersized and wrong-for-the-F50 wheels. 3. Enormous chrome plated door handles. 4. Proportions and fit and finish were nowhere close to Ferrari standards. 5. The owner had it for sale at $15k (!), and the sign in the window did identify it as a "replica." Personally, I don't think ugly "replicas" on Fiero chassis should exist at all. But since they do, there are forums for advertising them and shows specifically for kit cars. I just don't think he had a place at the all-Italian show.
He also listed that he had spent $1,500 in Ferrari decals, had $50,000 into the kit with 200 hours. Did this guy not have any friends that could have stopped him before he blew all that time and money on this?
That's the baffling part. $1500 for the decals? For $50k buy a good 308 QV, maybe even a 328, and the decals are free. Looks better, runs better, it's real, you have a legitimate place among Ferrari owners. . . Okay, a 308 QV is no F50. But neither is what he's got. Sure makes you wonder what he was thinking, doesn't it?
Heck - if I had $50k to hand I'd go straight out and buy a Ferrari 348. Actually, it makes me wonder if he's ever tried thinking. All the best, Andrew.

Good heavens, that might even be worse! Don't these kit car builders even look at the real cars? I wouldn't object so much to "replicas" if (a) they were never badged as Ferraris, Lamborghinis, or whatever they were trying to copy; and (b) they actually looked good. Hell, if someone wants to build a really beautiful "replica" of, say, an F40 - and make it look like something - but keep the Fiero badges, or put his own name on it as the guy who put it together then I'd say, "Well, you've built a nice full-scale model that you can drive, and you did good work!" But these ugly things should never be badged as, or called, "Ferraris." Or Lamborghinis. Or whatever they're trying to pass themselves off as.
Agree, BUT he probably could not get a loan for $50,000 and thus was able to spend that amount bit by bit over many years. Find me a person that will put that bit by bit away in savings and then eventually do something with it and I'll be surprised ... especially if a low earner. Pete

Hey, what do you want for 3 grand? http://www.wonderhowto.com/wonderment/did-chinese-truck-driver-manage-build-his-own-diy-lamborghini-0116981/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
That thing's actually kind of cute - and obviously never going to fool anyone! I have to respect a man who's resourceful enough to build his own car, from nothing, with very little money, and it's certainly unique. As long as he doesn't badge it as a Ferrari or Lamborghini, I'm fine with it. Very different from some lazy a$$ tacking ugly pre-fabricated body panels onto a Fiero and calling it a Ferrari, IMO.
While I am not a huge fan of most replicas, I must say that you have a rather simple idea of what is involved in such an undertaking. Even when replacing factory body panels with factory body panels, such an undertaking is quite a project! Here are some updates on the Miura Replica I posted earlier... Shiny Side Up!
