About 1135 last night i was driving back from a bar after meeting a few friends i have not seen for a while( i had no alcohol, the accident wasn't due to that) Its about a 20 minute drive back through the countryside to the main roads, it was raining really hard, i took a corner about 60, the back came out, i hit the opposite kerb, car went up it and into the trees, front completely destroyed, the right side of the car is completely smashed to, i wasn't hurt luckily but the cars a complete write off. I took what i could out of it and alerted the police. The cars being collected tomorrow by a local garage. Its such a strange time as my tax and insurance is nearly up on it and im taking delivery of a 430 at the beginning of next week, its like fate or something. It was a pretty fearfull experience and one i hope i never experience again ever, the car seemed to speed up as it slid, ther's nothign i could do. It was my fault really for taking the corner so fast in bad conditions but even so it was a terrifying experience and one i hope no one ever goes through. I'm going to try and get some pics if i can get down there tommorrow when they take the car away. If anyone needs a 360 stereo system please P.M me, ive also got the badges and the shields as i knew they would be taken as i did not inform the insurance company as i did not want to lose my no claims so near to my insurance being up (early next month) so the car was left there and my wife picked me up. I am in a complete hole here any advice on what to do?sell it for spares and lose a alot of money or notify my insurance company and lose my no claims? any advice and if anyone needs any parts P.M me and if i break the car i'll let you know, apart from the badges and shields which im keeping as a momento of my experience. This week has been so strange, spur of the moment purchase of a new car, destroying the old one at the end of its tax/ insurance, and just strange week generally.

    Chris,
I asume you are on the other side of the pond. Over here today we are celebrating Thanksgiving. You have a lot to be thankful for and thank God you were not hurt. From your post it seems you have the right attitude- it's just a car and you were not hurt. Enjoy the 430 as mine comes in March of 2007. Happy Thnaksgiving!!!

Sorry to hear of this but in the 360 it doesn't surprise me. You'll find the 430 altogether different and I doubt you'd have the rear end coming around the same way. You'll be glad you're out of it. I'd just run the numbers on weather using insurance is worth it. Enjoy the 430 and glad you're OK.

I am happy you are not hurt. That is most important.

Not making a claim means you are willing to "eat" a $100k (or more)? How much could your insurance go up?

Glad your okay. Taking care of small issues to avoid a claim is one thing, but a complete total is definitely something you'd want to use your insurance for!

Btw.....the guy who sold me my euro 360 told me he had everything...and I took him at his word, but..well, I could use a tool kit, car-cover, all the manuals & papers (not invoice, just the guides/manuals), etc. Basically all the detachable things that you could easily have misplaced...:)

The boys at Larini will be shipping me my new exhaust in a week or so, I'm sure there's a bit more room in the box. Please let me know if we can arrange anything.

    Again, glad your okay.

Your bestest friend ever :) - Steve

+1. I know something like this can shake you up pretty good, but just remember, you made it out safe and that's what counts. The rest can all be replaced.

I'd go with the insurance, otherwise you're going to put a big hole in your pocket to save a little one.

Does the 430 have a completely different rear suspension?...I am curious to know why you say that the 430 will be different.

and *enzo*...glad to hear you are ok, as they say, cars can be replaced....

Enzo, glad you are fine. What a horrible experience. Sounds like you are lucky to escape with no injuries. For that you must be very grateful. I have friends who have had accidents on the roads along the lines of what happened to you and the accident works on them. As you have 430 coming, you need to get this out of your system. Is it possible to take your new car to a track and experiment in the rain where you can be safe? You are obviously a confident driver and it would be a shame if this accident works on you too much. You need to learn from it and then put it behind you. Track in the wet is the place to learn the limits of your 430 and practice what to do when you exceed them

Chris, Thank God you're alive & well! Something similar happened to me before but my car suffered just a bumper crack when I hit two cars ahead. I wanted to settle privately but those buggers tried to rip me off & getting the insurance company to pay will affect the NCD. In the end, I let the insurance company handle, sure there'll be an increase in premium & excess but in your case, it's probably worth it. I don't think you want to swallow the value of a used 360 do you?

Speak to someone in the motor insurance trade & see his/her opinions, you can always go to other insurance companies. Try to get a broker/corporate rate, that may save you a lot of hassle as they know how to speak to the underwriter. Speak to your F430 supplier on this as well, I'm sure they can help. Good luck!

Very sorry to hear what happened to your 360 but happy to know that you are OK.
These cars don’t seem do well in rainy days. I almost lost control coming out of a curve hard in my 360 last year rainy day…

Glad to hear you are OK. Always watch out for the rain. It's not just the water on the road, but also the oil on the road that starts to run off.

Take care and congrats on the 430! Got my 360 just over a month ago and have not been out in the rain with it (though I am in Los Angeles and it rarely rains out here).

The 430 is alot more stable, like night and day. I've heard of way too many of these overstear situations and experienced it myself. Even Jeremy Clarkson described the 360 as a "twitchy so and so."

Chris, did you speak to the police at the scene. If you didn't, even if you want to make a claim you might struggle. Sorry to hear about it, the important thing is you are ok, cars can be replaced.....

Christ Chris, that is a shock, and i was looking forward to seeing the old girl at some point too, THANKFULLY NO HARM TO YOU.

Not claiming though?? That is a big hit to take and surely one of the main reasons we get insured!?!

If there are any bits you want to sell give me a shout could well be interested as i'm just round the corner from you.

    best wishes

im going to do the sums today and see which is the best route to take. Having a car collected is an expensive business, its £54 plus £1 mile for wherever the cars got to go, just to take you're wreck away. Im going to try and find out what time they are collecting it today as they could not tell me yesterday. Hopefully im free so i can go down there and see it in the light, last time i saw it was on the night of the accident and it was dark as there are no street lights around that area at all. Does anyone know where to get an accident report?as if the car just needs new right door, front right wing, trunk, bumper, front right wheel etc, it might be worth getting the parts from somewhere like those ferrari scrapyards and repairing it and for a few thousand pounds it would be worth it as the engine was fine as it was still running after the accident and i had to switch it off and sure the transmission is fine and generaly the rear end, however the crash was pretty bad and the car might have sustained chassis damage who do you get to check these things?
