How old is your car? How old is the battery in your car? When was its last service?

Batteries are one of the most problematic items in modern cars because the cars use many electrical systems that require exact electrical current to be supplied by the battery and charging system. If the electrical supply experiences hiccups the car's warning system will throw up faults, errors and can even stop certain functions from working. It doesn't matter if the engine is running and the charging system is working at the time - you can still get system faults if the battery is not working properly.

On top of this, modern cars will continue to draw current from their batteries even after you turn off the ignition. So the car batteries will drain when you are not driving the car. Frequent short (urban) trips will just make matters much worse.

This is why you must always connect the car to the battery tender supplied with the car when you put it away for the day. They don't give you a battery tender for laughs or for emergencies - it's for daily use. Battery tenders are not cheap, carmakers don't give them away for no good reasons. Battery issues cause a lot of problems.

Have the battery tested before you go looking for other issues with the car.
