So as many of you know, I fly -60m in the Florida Guard. While at flight school I took the exam and got my commercial, rotary wing, instrument rating license as well. However I would love to be able to rent a Cessna and go fly on the weekends. I'm ignorant in the ways of the civilian world, so what all do I need to do to get my PPL? I would hope I could bypass some of the ground school, considering, but I just am clueless and don't want to go to some local school and pay for stuff I don't need. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can do your ground school on line, and get the endorsement you need from a site like Sportys or the King schools,

I don't know if your current training, qualifications or experience can be counted towards your PPL, I would imagine your knowledge would put you far ahead of most students, so it would just require the minimum flight hours (40 with 10 solo) the written exam, oral and practical and away you go..

really need to dig into the regs... you say you have passed the commercial rotary wing license... which is superior to a PPL... you already have a PPL and gone to a commercial ticket ( rotary endorsement )... you already have a pilots license ( rotary )

going the other way, rotary is an endorsement to a fixed wing license, as would a multi or turbine or type rating

I would think you only need to get a fixed wing type rating, which is a few hours in a fixed wing to gain proficiency...

Why not just call the FAA (or the GADA, if they still exist) and ask them?

They have the final say on this after all...

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to research further. BTW, getting the commercial was an interesting process. During flight school, you are encouraged to go to the PHPA outside post. You sign up and pay for a class, go half a day for instruction and then come back and take the written exam. Then when you graduate flight school you bring your flight records and they do a MILCOMP credit and there ya go, commercial, rotary, instrument license, all for a total of $200ish. Haven't used it as of yet, but nice to have for the future. However a regular fixed wing PPL is much more useful to me.
