I have the new Razr2 V9m, and am hooked up to Verizon. I don't see anywhere on my phone where I can save an MP3 file as a ringtone. I also called Verizon to inquire, and they told me there was no way to do it. I find that hard to believe.

    Anyone have some insight?

I am 99.9% sure that the Motorola Phone Tools will let you use any music file as a ringtone on your phone. I believe you're supposed to pay for that software package from Motorola, although I've seen it downloadable for free, so maybe it's free from Motorola and just hard to find, I am not sure.

    EDIT:

Just checked and yes, motorola phone tools will let you do it and a google search for that program turns up tons of "DOWNLOAD FREE" sites so I think it's free from Motorola.

    Thanks for the info.

I called Motorola, and they charge $35 just to download, and I think $45 if you want the CD and cable.

Go to phonezoo.com, they have a lot you can send to your phone , and they have a section where you can upload a song and create your own ring tone.

I bought the Phone Tools CD + interface cord on eBay but yes, you can download the app from the web and as speedin mentioned you can use Bluetooth to transfer the file.

I also use AoA Audio Extractor to customize a music file and/or snip a portion of the tune/audio (from a video). You can save space by not using the whole file.

I have Alltel and it's pretty much unlimited with what you can do (ringtones, wallpaper, etc) but have been told that those options are "closed" to Verizon customers. You have to buy downloads from them.

    But this might help; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMJqiOqeN2M

BTW, I have "Shut Up" by the Black Eyed Peas assigned as a ringtone for a certain company. It never fails to amuse those within earshot (and myself) when the call comes in.

I already have the cable for transferring, and have a ton of MP3 music on my phone already. I just cannot just take an MP3 to use as a ringtone - my phone does not allow it.

Would you go to a seafood restaurant and expect the best steak ever? Or would you go to a steakhouse instead? ;)
