My credit card rate has risen from a fixed 3.99% in 2004 to 7.25% as of today. I pay a annual fee to keep it lower. I have a credit score of well over 700, own my own home, never had a late payment with any bills. Is this the norm or are there better rates than this. I usually keep a balance-more than I would like to, but this is ridiculous. Called the company today(Chase)-they tell me the rate follows the PRIME rate and I can go with a no-annual fee rate of 8.99%---WTF!!!

They just provide the rope, only you can hang yourself with it. You can change companies constantly with their teaser introductory rates. If I cannot pay the bill the day I receive it, I do not purchase the item. My philosophy is "it isn't on sale" if I have to pay interest.

The only way to stay ahead of the game with these guys is to pay them off every month. If you get mileage for purchases then it's even better.

Everyone offers the teaser rates. Just go with the next one to send an offer to your house. Discover has been trying to get me back as a customer for the last year and a half...screw them by the way...there is always someone willing to give you 0%....I haven't paid a dime in interest in 5 years and I have carried a balance on my card. You just need to flip them from card to card every six months or so.

The easiest way is to pay them off though.
