Has anyone ever logged a considerable amount of miles on their 360 in a short period of time? I was recently given the opportunity to pick up a 360, drive it home (600 miles) and play with it for a couple of weeks, and finally drive another 1,300 miles to deliver it. The owner of the car doesn't care about depreciation, nor does he care about logging miles on it. He's one of those "live fast, live in the now" type of guys, and I fully respect that.

Here's the thing though - for some strange reason, I'm not really looking forward to this. I love Ferraris, and I've never driven an exotic (the fastest cars I've ever driven are the usual M's and AMG's), but for some reason the scenario that repeatedly plays in the back of my mind is that of the car breaking down on the side of the road somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Assuming the service is up to date, can the car handle 600 - 1,200 miles of driving in a day (in 110 degree weather none-the-less)?

Am I totally out to lunch? Is this one of those experiences that I would be stupid for passing on?

I'll gladly do it for you. Seriously. To me a road trip is the ultimate way to develope a relationship with your car. Pick some beautiful winding roads, and take your time going through the country side enjoying seeing beautiful North America in one of the finest automobiles made. You'll talk to neat people and go places where few Ferrari's have gone (if you're driving that far I figure you will be in some less populated areas). If it breaks down, no big deal. Get it fixed and enjoy the mini-vacation while they work on it. Sounds to me like the 360 is a reliable rig.

How much luggage can you stuff into the Modena's front boot? Also, here's another dumb question - what kind of MPG do they get (highway driving)? How car can I travel on a single tank of gas? These might sound like dumb questions, but I'll be driving through the night on some very remote roads so I want to do my homework before I commit to this expedition.

The most I ever drove in my 360 was 1500 mile in a 4 day period, summer time, from northern California to southern California with a number of stops along the way. No problems at all and the A/C is very good!

Last year I drove mt 430 from SF to LA to Vegas and back to SF in a 4 day period, great fun with no problems at all.

I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I have done the 'fly, buy and drive' Ferrari experience for 20+ years.

Testarossa from Menomenee MI to AZ
Mondialt cab from Rochester NY to AZ
F40 from LA to PHX....... in 3 hours 20 minutes! :)

If the car has been cared for, Ferrari's are meant to be driven and enjoyed. I'm planning my next fly, buy and drive' with a CS very soon!

After buying my car, I drove it home from SoCal, some 425 miles. No problems. The only issue is that there is no cruise control, so you have to mind the throttle. But this was on well-traveled interstate highways and good roads.

The "remote roads" thing is what gets me about the OP. What is the condition of these roads and is there cell phone coverage? I don't think you need to worry about the car breaking down so much as possibly getting a flat (no spare tire unless the car is that rare one with the factory spare), or not being able to summon help for either a tire problem or mechanical. Finally, if the roads are really bumpy and/or in poor condition you will get tired fast or there could be something that breaks.

You can't really get luggage into the front boot. Soft bags yes. But not even the carry-on rollers will fit.

The mileage isn't bad on the highway with lower RPMs around 18 mpg. I think the tank holds
    at least 16 gallons.

If you do break down it will require a flatbed tow. Make sure you bring the tow hook.

The 360 is fun to drive when you are in the mood for sporty serious driving. If you are tired, not into feeling all the bumps and want to be comfortable- it is not.

Ok great stories but the other can happen also. Youre at the end of your first day and the sun has gone down youre passing thru a little border town and you throw a belt . After pulling over to the side of the road after about 40 minutes a pick up truck pulls up with 4 meth crazed gang bangers and ask if they can help After holding a 45 in your mouth they decide to have a little fun with the ferrai boy and tie you to a tree and take turns takin pot shots at you blind folded... ok enough ,, Go for it ... sounds like a good experience,, by the way is your premiums up to date on the insurance .. Good for you guys! Where I live only have 100 miles by 35 miles, no much land to big road trips.

I currently use my 360 as a daily driver and often do 5 hour trips to customers there and back in a day. 360 is a great solid car

I flew to northern California, bought my CS and drove it home, about 700 miles. No problems and loved every minute of it.

Whenever I drive my 430 more than about 200 miles, my foot starts to get really sore and cramp up from the position. It is a fun car and a blast to drive, but if you are just doing slow highway driving and not getting the adrenaline rush, the car can be a little uncomfortable IMO for long periods of time....

You have to be kidding. There is a LOT of luggage space in a 360. The trunk is very large and there is quite a bit of space behind the seats too. If your goal is a large hard sided case maybe not but there is even plenty of extra room for your wife/girlfriend's shoes.

Chupee, that would rank a paranoia but don't worry; they are out to get you.

The tank holds 25 US gallons of fuel. Likely plenty of range even with relatively low MPG.

I drove from Long Island to Virginia Beach to Apex, NC and back in one weekend (about 1200 miles total). I got a little over 300 miles per tank of gas. No reliability problems whatsoever, but you won't believe the number of bugs stuck to the front bumper! There is plenty of room in the trunk/behind the seats for a 4-day trip. Btw, my carry-on with wheels fits nicely in the boot (and I have a spare tire!)

Recently bought a '92 512 in Boston and drove home to CO, 2200 miles, Loved every minute of the 3 day road trip.
Also bought a 348 years ago in AZ. and drove home to MT, 1200 miles.
Both of those times the cars ran perfect, no problems and was lucky enough to have perfect weather.

let me give a dissenting opinion:

I recently drove from LA to Flagstaff AZ and then back. It was about 500 miles each direction and instead of taking my 360 spider, I took my Range Rover Sport Supercharged.

The RR is more comfortable, quiet, plush, superb audio system, navigation, cruise control, and all around a relaxing experience. I downloaded a bunch of good audio podcasts (NPR's This American Life) onto a USB memory stick and plugged it in the RR and enjoyed the drive.

The 360 spider would have been very loud, less comfortable, and frankly tiring after an hour or two.

For enjoying a Sunday drive through the canyons or up PCH? 360 spider
For an all day long commute on a straight highway/freeway? Range Rover

I think you touched on a key point - the LA to AZ drive is one of the most boring I've ever done - long, straight, nothing to look at. But that's an extreme - it all depends on what roads the OP is going to drive.

The only real problem in driving an F-Car for extended periods of time is the same as what you see as warnings in some TV advertisements, "if you have an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours"....
