Just put in a serious offer on a 599. Little sooner than I may have wanted; but if it works out, I think it's worth pulling the trigger and making it happen!!!

Good luck and keep us posted. I keep thinking that those are a good buy now but have my eyes on a 550. Can't bear the thought of not having a 3 pedal car in garage.

    Just off-loaded my 550 - great car!

I am not horrible at 3 pedal, but being of a younger generation; I was forced to focus too much on shifting correctly, matching revs and also paying attention to traffic. Very little focus left to actually enjoy driving a Ferrari!!! But that's because I am not as much of a natural with 3 pedal as most of you probably are.

Drove a friends F1 360 and had a blast as the driving experience allowed me to enjoy driving the car; because I was able to direct more of my sense elsewhere..

Heading to Myrtle tomorrow with Dad to spend some time with a friend who has a 599. Become familiar with it. Something I've never done on any of my previous purchases..

There are 50 or so 599's for sale at any given time and they're depreciating. The cruddy part is that the dealers gave a trade-in value to a client months ago and as always - the F-Car Mkt moves quickly. In 8 mos these vehicles have dropped 12-18% and are going just a tad lower at the end of the summer and will probably hold steady til the end of the year..

My offer was a little lower than fair on this last car - but that is because it was offered 4 months ago with 8k less miles for about the same price as now. It also has some modifications and as we all know that lowers the value in our world. I was planning on restoring it back to stock over the course of the next couple months. But in order to do so, I needed them to release the car to me at a price I could live with.

Especially, pulling the trigger earlier than expected. Fingers crossed I can deal with a private party. I've bought my last 3 cars that way and prefer to continue that pattern. Also, costs less on highway usage tax when registering car!!!

Sean - I know that you really want a 599, but I think you should re-think your strategy. I know that you have experience buying cars, but I don't think you want to bottom fish on this car. Save up another $10-15K and then many more options will be available. You can't over-analyze the market or the pricing. It is not ratrional because these cars are not rational - just go with it and buy a great car, you'll pay a little more but I bet you won't regret it.

    Best wishes.

I have to respectfully disagree with this. Nothing wrong with going for a bottom 599. Not a bad model year among them.

    You'll find your car, Sean.

Just make sure you drive a base model.

When I was choosing a 612, I was surprised by the different between the HGTS / HGTC and base models of the Gen 1 612s, and decided to allocate more funds to get an HGTS model. Obviously, not everyone will agree with me.

Just be patient. The chase is 90% of the fun anyway. Let's face it, these cars aren't that easily sold. Not so many buyers of used cars at $150k+. Let it sit for a while longer. Give the seller your number. If he changes his mind, he's got your number.

Piper - I agree that the model year doesn't mean as much, none are bad. My point was more around condition, custom pieces, modifications, etc.

I spent the last five or so months researching the 599 market before I bought my car, I became familiar with many cars that are currently on the market. Some of the cars available may require more money than others to maintain proper performance. Many of the cars at the "bottom" of the market fall into this category in my mind, irregardless of model year.

I know how much Sean and his dad want a 599, I know he'll get one, but I hope gets a good one. Or if Sean is in Boston this summer - you are invited to take a ride in mine.

The same could be said for any model of any car anywhere in it's depreciation curve. By extension, the only smart move then is to buy brand new. Anything less is assuming some level of wear and tear, and risk. So if one isn't buying new, then it's a decision of budget vs. risk. 599 like the 612 are cars that are quite predictable. So if the OP is willing to compromise on high miles and even a minor story as long as it passes PPI, then there's nothing about the 599 in particular that makes this a bad decision, just a decision, based on his individual circumstances.

The 599 still has road left until full depreciation. Hopefully, I will see the dead end sign before buying or when purchasing. I would argue that a 430 or 599 are about the only vehicles safe to bottom feed on as the majority of maintenance is slightly more sensitive than my Lexus since belts were done away with.

On my way shortly to drive a friends 599 in Myrtle. Catch y'all soon!

That car is absolutely gorgeous in person & Dad is in love also!!!

We were able to see a proper example (red on tan). I think this will help me in the future. Instead of price being the driving factor - I can balance that along with the other..
