So after looking over the wiring schematics on the factory stereo it seems the 360's speaker and tweeter share the same wire through the plug on the door. My question is where does the crossover happen then? just paralleld?

I couldn't find a crossover on mine. When I installed my new components (Focal), I mounted the Focal crossovers in the door and then ran a separate (new) wire from the Focal crossover to the new focal tweeter.

Well isn't that just a handy piece of engineering. Guess my idea of quickly throwing in a better set of tweeters in today since I have a few spare hours is pointless.

Randy any speaker upgrades you are considering have a lot more to them than meets the eye. It is achievable but you will need to consider many aspects to do it right. Right is a relative term in this regard. You might get improvement over stock by just popping your new tweeters in and see what happens. Hopefully they "fit". This is the first hurdle. Then the wiring. Many have gone before you and can help if you are able to post up pictures and get a discussion going.

I believe there is a resistor soldered to the factory tweeter that acts as a crossover (blocks the lower frequencies).

Here's a picture of my Focal replacement:

In my Spider all I can really hear are the twins between the seats, if I put balance to the front I can hear them but not well at all. I'm thinking it's time to put in a real stereo that will take advantage of the 1200W amp the PO had installed.. then have the pros check the speakers to see how good they are as they supposedly are new also. Be nice to have a stereo with bluetooth built in, logical-intuitive controls, readable screen, etc..

That makes more sense. Easy enough to find tweeters with mini passive crossovers then. Where my confusion was coming from was I read on another forum the crossover was done in the factory amp but only outputting on one channel per door.

Took me a while to figure it out... Check your stock speakers, all of mine had dry rot on the diaphragm so they got replaced with Focals in the doors and JL's in the sub box (I have the HiFi option).

Night and Day difference over stock....
