So I'm a fan of Crown but haven't tried the extra reserve or the cask no.16 and was wondering who has and what they thought about it? worth the extra money or is sticking with the regular just as good?

I personally have moved on to things like Jim Beam Black, Woodford Reserve.....things that have more spice and are a little woodier/dryer.

I find the orginal Crown a little too sweet/almondie and thought that the Cask 16 was even more so.

Everyone likes something diferent so I'm not specidfically trying to slam the Crown brands.

The Special Reserve is definitely smoother and worth the extra couple bucks, but I haven't tried the no. 16 so I can't help you there. I like the Crown Royal whiskey's but I have to agree with Meister as I find Woodford Reserve and other Bourbons to be more flavorful. But maybe since I'm Canadian I've OD'd on the Crown brand.

I actually tried the Woodford Reserve for the first time last week and do agree that it does have a richer taste than the Crown, but I'm still partial to the sweeter whisky.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle of Glenlivet 15 year French Oak Reserve. It's sweet!

I've had all the CR's, including one I picked up in Canada a year or so ago that we can't get in the US. I wish I remember what it was called!

The Special Reserve is probably my favorite from price/quality perspective. The XR is very good, but much more peppery than the other CR's. At the price, I don't open mine often. Cask 16 is somewhere between the XR and the Spec Reserve in the pepper dep't.

If you like one, you'll probably like the others unless the 'sweetness' of the original is what you like about it.
