Anybody coming to Biloxi/Gulfport for Cruising the Coast?
I "think" the official dates are October 4-10 but cars start showing up the 2nd and 3rd. Last year there were just under 5000 cars registered I think. Its back to pre-katrina participation. A friend of mine has an empty beachfront lot in East Gulfport where we will set up an RV. Fchatters who know they are coming PM me and I'll tell you where so you can stop by one day. We'll have a couple of Porsches and my 308 there. Joe
Here's a link to the site. I saw a few Ferraris last year. One black Lambo, lots of Porsches and others from across the pond. THe majority will be Antiques, Mopars, Ratrods, and anything you can imagine from the 1920's to 2010's. Its fun to just sit on hwy 90 and watch the burnouts. They will be doing a "flyby" on Saturday evening with some aircraft. I flew that last year but plan to stay on the ground this year. Check the photo section and watch the videos! http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/
It's a great event! I used to judge some of the events. Also, I had the first Ferrari entered at CTC!
I have a lot going on that weekend. If I was able to make it out it would be for the day. Will I be able to get in and get out without massive traffic snarls?
Ive never had a traffic delay during this event other than a backup from a wreck one year. THe area on Hwy 90 from the mall to the coliseum in Biloxi is usually very congested in the late afternoon because its where a lot of spectators sit for burnouts. So as long as you avoid that you are ok. Gulfport is less congested than Biloxi for some reason. You can hit numerous side streets to get to pass road then east or west to an I10 route. You can be in the thick of it all and 15min later be on I-10. They just announced on WLOX they have 4700 cars pre registered and they estimate another 2000 won't register and just show up to cruise. One word of warning though...fill up your tank before getting off I-10 if you need Premium fuel. All of the stations in town run out every day from the hotrods. That is unbelievable!
Spotted several customs/classics on I-12 last night that I assume are headed to the coast. One Fcar, a red Daytona coupe!
Today's the first official day but they had a "pre" kickoff event yesterday in Gulfport. And OH MY GAWD! you should see the quality of cars down here! Some are truely works of art! Im guessing there's around 1000 or so here already with over 5000 by the end of the week. I go down, park on the beach, sit and watch them pass by all day. This is one week i am glad I live here!
Spent the afternoon on the coast. Went thru Gulfport then along the beach to Edgewater Mall. Son and I then walked to the Coliseum and back to the mall. Had a great time but only took a few cell phone pics. The black current gen Camaro has a Trans Am conversion; unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a pic of the front end...looked way better than the Camaro's front. Saw my first Maserati GranTurismo Spyder, but no Fcars or Alfas.
