I was just down in St Croix and saw the opportunity to pick up a bunch of rum for a very nice price. Apparently their single barrel aged rums are supposed to be pretty good. I haven't had a chance to try any of it yet but was curious if anybody else was familiar. Any particular way that "nice" rum should be enjoyed? I usually just put a little in with some Coke and that's about it.

Seen it, but since I'm not much of a Rum drinker I haven't tried it yet.
Pyrat on the other hand I have tried. Throw the coke away...you won't need it:)

I am no expert but I always liked a bit of soda with mine. Also, with a dark rum, making a rum runner then tossing a shot on top of it makes for a delicious but potent cocktail.

Either way congrats on the rum, good rum at a cheap price...cant beat that. You reallly cant lose.

Enjoyed a fair amount of that when my boat stopped in St Croix years back - loved how a bottle of rum was less than a case of Coke at the time...

Cruzan single barrel isn't bad. I drink a fair amount of rum, mostly Matusalem, Pampero and Zacapa, but I've been known to enjoy a bottle of Cruzan single barrel as well.

I prefer rum neat, celler temp or room temp. Pour it in a snifter if you like, it will enhance it a bit.

Smoke a good cigar with it for additional enjoyment. :)

Cruzan Vanilla Rum is my island drink. It's about $10 bottle and is good enough to drink straight. You can cut it with coke if you'd like. When we were in the islands in May, 2 couples bought 8 bottles for a 5 night trip. There was maybe 1/2 a bottle left.

Not your snooty single barrel, but damn good! :) I've been told to try 7 fathoms for single barrel.

I've had the vanilla as well. It's very good. I'm more of an Appleton junkie myself. Cruzan is usually my second choice. Good stuff.

Well I only bought three bottles of the single barrel and 19 bottles of the cheap stuff. It was all I could carry :D

Brinley's Gold out of St. Kitts is also very good-especially their Vanilla rum

I tried Cruzan a few months ago. It was priced slightly cheaper than Bacardi but I preferred it as it has a slightly cleaner flavor. Bacardi is mildly sweeter.

We did the same thing about 9 years ago, and ever since, I have bought only Cruzan dark rum. Usually we drink about a bottle a year and we use it in Daquaris in the summer and egg nog at Christmas time

I only bought three bottles of the black strap but wish I had bought thirty... It has a sweet vanilla taste and smell that goes perfect with Coke.

Unfortunately it's been a while since I have been able to enjoy a cigar and rum as it's hot as hell here and only getting into the 80s at night.
