Went on a drive this morning... 1st time in 3 weeks...
car was not accelerating, and eventually the check engine light started to flash when idle, then the slow down warning came up.
Reading manual it looks like it has to do with airflow ad exhaust temp...
Anybody else has had that issue before?

My shop is about 30 miles away. Would it be an issue to drive the car (peacefully) there, or should i bed it to bring it there?

Any advice appreciated. Had the car for 2 months only

Check Engine light flashing, means you are/were detect a "misfire" condition. You should have notice a bit rough idle then normal, this is in most case, but not always true by the feel.
Whenever you have a CEL, retrieve code is the 1st thing to do.
Once you know what the code is then you can proceed on that route.
Diagnose by symptom of feel and hear, can be deceiving sometime. Try to avoid that if you can.

what diagnostic tool should/could i buy to do that myself?
SD2 or 3 is out of question because of its price. Anything i can buy that would give me a code. I don't intend to work it, just want to know if i can drive the car to the shop or if it is preferable to flatbed it there.

You can get a Bluetooth OBD II reader and a program for your smartphone to read the codes, not sure how much that will help but it's something.

This - Amazon.com: Hhobd Torque Android Bluetooth OBD2 OBDII Wireless CAN BUS Check Engine Auto Scanner Interface Adapter ECU Code Reader Scan tool: Everything Else and an app like OBD Droidscan Pro or Torque Pro (for Droid phone of course) should work.

Lets start at the beginning : new owners often get a misfire and/or CEL after firing the car up without waiting for the 'Check OK' on the dash - this needs ruling out - try starting the car again

A further step for which there are two schools of thought is to try a battery-off reset - the CEL fault may disappear but it will also remove any codes : one argument is that if the fault persists the codes will reappear anyway - another is that all information is good information and so not to do it

No... Just tried to restart after a check ok, and it went straight to "slow down" mode.
Is the battery off reset done using the master switch in the front boot?

Ok... Verdict is...8 codes! Multiple misfires, then p0116 (engine coolant perfect), then p0426 (cat temp sensor), then p1135. Does anyone know the last one? It is a ferrari specific...
Sound like I am flat-bedding this thing to the Indy next week.
