    From the ad:

"If you are looking for a mint condition Challenge Stradale, this is it."

How can you say that with a salvage title?

Exactly...just goes to show some sellers will write anything in an add (I guess since its repaired, there may be some technically correct argument that its "mint".) I did know which car it was when I posted here btw, I just wanted it refreshed in this thread since its for sale (again, or still). I do wish the seller would include the carfax in the ad or at least state what happened and was repaired and the salvage title. IMO its misleading to not do so.

I have no opinion on the condition/repair of the car (having not seen it). I just find it interesting that even a seemingly minor accident that undergoes a high quality repair still knocks so much value off of Ferrari's...

Wasn't this one listed for under $100K last year with a different seller? I'm pretty sure it was.

People value the paperwork as much as the car. It's kind of sad, the owner could have had the floor pan repaired but I'm sure instead just wanted the cash for the car, and now it has a 'checkered' past for no reason other than greed along the line. This is the type of car I'd buy as I buy to drive, not to read some paperwork.

I think it's almost a bonus, a good reason to put a ton of miles on this car and enjoy it rather than trying to preserve any collector value. The CS is such a driver's car, but unfortuantely they are so limited and sought after, they are also going to be such a collector's car and not driven.

I really wish Ferrari would have made 10x the number of CSs so thier prices would follow the normal depreciation curve and all us bargin buyers who want to drive the car could experience the joy! One issue that was bothering me when I was looking at a CS was the fact that I just didnt' have any reasonable mile opportunities (15-20k) and would feel guilty driving it 4-5k miles a year as I wanted to do with my first Ferrari.

    Agreed and nobody feels differently......

But would you drop $120K on it when you can have a perfect one for $20K more? That's the bottom line.

    I wouldn't.

I don't wish they made more. I bought the CS because of it's limited numbers. That's the whole point. I've had enough "dime a dozen" sports cars. I only want collectible cars from now on.

You can drive a CS as much as you want and probably not lose a penny on it at this point. It's the best bet out there. Why feel guilty driving it? I don't.

I have to say, given that this car was available (post repair I assume?) for under $100k a while back (as reported in this thread anyways), that would have been a good oppty to buy one and drive it forever (because selling it is/will be difficult). I think that merits strong consideration...but, I agree, not at $119.9k!

Yeah, I hear you on that. Interestingly, in this case I was told (fwiw, not sure if true) that the car "had to have a salvage title" because the repair was to the floor board (not because the owner wanted it written off...but I have no idea if that is the truth or not).

You bet I'd save the $20k. That buys a lot of track time and a bunch of tires. You're essentially paying $20k more to not have 'salvage' written on the title, that's it (in this case at least). Not worth it to me but I think I'm in the minority...I know I don't get my title out and look it over every time I drive my car so why pay $20k to get absolutely no more enjoyment out of the car?

That being said, I get my kicks behind the wheel and spinning wrenches. I don't think a lot of the collector crowd that seems to be gobbling these cars up have the same type of interest in them - they value them for other reasons and there's nothing wrong with that. I doubt I'll ever be in the market for a CS as I don't think I'd enjoy one twice as much as a 360, and I don't think they'll cost much less than twice a 360...Now if we were talking 20-30% difference it'd be a different story. I would absolutely buy a salvage CS over a no stories 360, and pay 20-30% more, but it doesn't look like prices are there and I don't see that happening in the future.

It is 'mint'. That piece of paper scars it. There was a blue car that I looked at from NE that had a clean title. However, with a little research it had a $75K+ 'off', and I walked. I would take that salvage title car all day over the blue car with a clean title.

Same seller.... SV Automotive is the place I drove it a couple of years ago. We were stuck on price, otherwise I would be driving that scuderia red car. It was great.

Ok. Well if the same seller has had it listed for years then I'm not alone in my thinking.

Part of the attraction of the car IS the limited production, along with everything else. It is a perfect package.

I doubt 250 GTO owners are worrying about miles. When these cars are 30 years old, they will be iconic.

It wasn't under $100K. I made that offer and it went nowhere.

The car was discussed here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=217420&highlight=135699

Well, I don't want them as common as Mustangs and Corvettes, but more than the ~365 or whatever came to the US would be nice. Very low production also jacks up part prices and servicing costs. Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of "collectible" status and 100-1000% price premiums due to exclusivity on cars that should be driven.

I can see the desire for exclusivity though, if you've got the cash to do it without concern (including of relative driving value for $).

Me neither! We are very much on the same page! :)

There will always be those that never drive them. Whether its a run of the mill Modena, or a CS. I have always believed that they are missing the point, and with the CS, as the years go buy it will be more about how well the car has been taken care of. Who did the restoration, etc.

Guys, I can assure you that CS was NOT available for under $100k last year. You're likely mixing it up with the rosso scuderia CS currently for sale for $95.8k.

The CS in question with floor pan repair was originally listed by SV Automotive Engineering in July 2009 for $125k and now being offered by them again.

A small diversion from the current train of thought:

A little more than a year ago I told a friend of mine (Stokpro) that I would be in the market for a CS. He was a huge help to me in thinking about the litany of options available for the CS, the issues to be mindful of, etc. On a side note, I believe that people shouldn't make noise. In other words, I don't take up people's time unless I have something useful to do with it. I told Stokpro a month and year in which I'd be a cash buyer and asked him to not spend much time educating me or keeping me posted on the market. I'm fortunate to live close to him so we occasionally grabbed a beverage or chatted it up at FCA events.

As time progressed, I would update him on my status and he'd update me on the market.

Two weeks ago I bought the Nero CS with black wheels and yellow calipers from Ferrari of Seattle. Pictures of the car are posted in this thread. I ended up buying the car ahead of the schedule I had expressed earlier. I won't go into the details as to why, but in short I couldn't pass it up. The perfect car, I know the previous owner who is local to me, and have several friends (H2OSkier, Stokpro, and others) that expressed their thoughts on the cars "pedigree" if you will.

I should also point out here that FoS did a great job on customer service in the transaction. I thought I'd share with the collective here how that happened. As I mentioned before, I don't like to make noise. So I met with the owners of FoS who are friends and told them my timeline. I met with them about 6 months ago. I told them to not look for a car until February and that I'd be a cash buyer in April 2012. We went over a few details on my view of the market, important points on the car, etc. I was well prepared by Stokpro!

When this Nero car came up for sale with 3,715miles I went to visit it at the showroom. I made my intentions to buy the car clear immediately. Ever the banker, I lined up financing on the car (which was about 40% of the fun for me!) and bought it.

I was fortunate to have several friends join me at the showroom to pick up the car. After the deal was done, about 5 of us, including one of the owners at FoS stood around BS'ing about cars and such. We decided to go on a drive to one of our favorite lunch spots with twisty roads ending in valet parking and a table over looking a waterfall. just after lunch was finished an anonymous "admirer" gave us a nice bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate. It took us a while, but the admirer was the owner at FoS. He was standing there with us when we decided where to go to lunch! Well done Tino!!

That was then. It has now been about two and half weeks since I bought the car. It has an additional 900 miles on the odometer with many more to come.

Thank you Stokpro, H2OSkier, FoS and the previous owner (Fchatter) for your friendship and assistance in making a dream come true!

Congrats once again, Trevor, I only wish that I could have been there with you when you took delivery. I was really happy to hear that you were the one buying this particular CS because truthfully, it really is one of my favorites being such a stunning example. I've had a chance to photography this particular one multiple times and of course would love to take many more in the years to come. How about it, Trev? Let's do it?
