Mine arent leaking and my clutch is fine. My CS was fully inspected when we replaced the belts. Nothing else was needed at the time........The reason we replaced the belts is because I insisted on a fresh starting point moving forward.

$1800 seems real low...but good for you guys if you can get it done for that much. Around my area the lowest indy shop is around $3K and $4.3 at the dealer. BTW I just had mine done at the dealer and even though I overpaid, I don't feel bad. They've worked on it since it was new. I know that doesn't mean much to some but to me it's a bit of peace of mind.

other than a visual inspection no.

I do know that cam seals and calibrating needs to be done at certain intervals. My situation was different. Since I didnt know when the belts were done last I wanted to get them done for piece of mind.

I will do cam seals, clutch etc etc if needed this winter.

That's not what Windsock is referring to. It's not a visual thing. It's something that changes the cars performance if not done correctly. He references a loss of 20hp as well. Interesting banter. I'd sure like you guys to find your invoices to let us know what the 1800 bucks gets ya. I'd like to know as well.

Well, I just spoke with my mechanic who, as Chas indicates, has been in business working on Ferraris for many many years. I'm good with the info I got. Going to do cam seals at the same time as the clutch- hopefully around 18-20k miles, which will be a long way off since I'm at 5500.

i was fortunate to drive my friends brand new scud yesterday. it was only about 30 min, but provided a good counterpoint to my cs. this is a luxury package scud with leather seats and normal seatbelts and stereo etc. and it was certainly a more comfortable place than my cs, and it was more refined in some ways like the shift speed, the auto function, the manetino, etc. but, never mind my bias, it also did not seem to be worth the extra 100k he just spent on it over my cs...there is not a 100k difference between the cars. and i still strongly feel that the cs market will rise slightly here in switzerland towards the 180k mark, whereas the scud has some downside towards the 220k area over the next few years. so again i think i made the right decision, both monetarily and viscerally. perhaps if i had only one car, like my friend, i would have opted for the scud. but in my case the cs fits me and my purposes, perfectly !
IF the values in the usa slip any more, i will be sorely tempted to buy another one for over there.

Cams do not need to be degreed every time you do a belt swap, so cam covers do not need to be removed every time either, especially if you are using a three year interval. Scare tactics by technicians. For a lock, match and swap, $1800 sounds entirely reasonable. Look in the WSM and see what they recommend. I did. If you do not have the WSM, PM me and I will give you two sources for free downloads.

My last belt change, on a much easier to change V12, cost $1200 plus parts and was done by Bobileff in April 2008.

I am a belt purist and arrived at these conclusions after exchanges with Brian Crall and Dave Helms.

Belt holier than thou is almost as bad as the extended change argument.

This thread has become a great point of reference.

    A few questions

    1. Can you tell me what Brembo part#s are for Rotors and pads? I get good pricing and i'm curious what i can get them for

    2. How long will CCBs last if only driven on the streets? A Body shop guy bought a turbo with PCCBs on them and said they last for 100K miles on the streets? Any truth to that?

    3. Does anyone know of an INDY shop in So Cal that will do a belt job for $1800? I'd like to check them out.

Lastly, a shot out to the two non performing buyers, I actually Envi these guys as I wish i didnt pull the trigger so quickly when I bought mine. Du Dilligence is important and should not be overlooked. However with that said they should pay an extra 10K and buy the right car.

same thing happened to my friend in his 360, which is why he bot the scud.
i wonder if these 360's are inherently unstable. hope they ironed that out int he cs !

I can't answer the qutesion for a CS. This is absoultely true on a 997 with 2nd gen PCCB'
    s. I was told this by John Gladwill - Head Mechanic at Boardwalk Porsche. The 2nd gen PCCB's will easily last 5-7 sets of brake pads. Obviously if you are tracking on a frequent basis and not using proper braking techniques then they might last 2 months. I track my GT3 only once a year and last time I checked the rear pads - they had 1 mm of wear after 12.5K miles and rotors look brand new.

One of the car that I am looking at, has had 2 rotors replaced..... they were $8K each. I have a feeling that when these things wear out from regular use, CCB will be more mainstream and the costs will come down as the parts become more main stream.

True but I would be concerned about 2004 CS CCB rotors. They are more in line with 1st gen PCCB's on Porsches. Then again - Since He already replaced the rotors, you won't have to worry about them for a while.

Just remember they need warm up and cool down like an engine!
