I just had one yesterday. They didn’t tell me in advance I was going to have to drink 32 ounces of dye w/ water. Since I had eaten oatmeal for breakfast it was difficult. The IV dye was really neat – feeling the warm sensation overtake my body. They say this is how heroine makes you feel... Had to take prednisone & Benadryl before because I’m allergic to shrimp. Today my face is all puffy & red. What is that from? What was your experience?

My wife had one when they checked her sinuses. She described it just like you said it was......

I've never done heroin, but I got pumped full of morphine once when I had a colles fracture in my wrist, and it was just like you said. I can see how people get hooked easily.

I had 2 last month. First was with the 2 drink cocktail. The next was with contrast (the dye that you feel running warm through your veins).

I also had a Pet Scan on the same day, and an MRI on my brain, the day earlier. I'm soooo glad nothing was found, I really don't ever want to do any of them again.

I hope yours found nothing as well.

    Take care.

I am extremely allergic to the dye they use for a CT scan and the antidote is a shot of benadryl. They told me that I am allergic to iodine but I have no issues eating shellfish.

Many years ago I had a reaction to contrast dye after a CT scan for kidney stones. I had uncontrolable shaking for about half an hour, but no damage done.

Years ago, in my early 20s, I had to go in for a "lower" which involved contrast dye and some x-rays. As the tech started the IV my forearm swelled pretty quickly. Upon seeing that, her eyes got real big and then she rushed out. Seconds later her and another senior tech came running back in. He then switched the IV to my other arm and everything proceeded from there.

I have no memory of the details from that day.

Years later, while being admitted for a deadly bout of anaphylaxis (stepped on a "Tread Softly" plant) the Dr. reminded me that I was also allergic to contrast dye. He said, "don't ever forget that".

BTW, these things are wicked in the spring time.

So far I'm not allergic to any plants. Just shrimp. I did pick up a caterpillar in the yard that instantly made my skin feel all tingly & weird. Also skinned fish with maybe fire coral on them. Got stung by Man-o-war jelly once that was similar. All went away after a time w/out epinephrine. The shrimp made my throat feel itchy tho several times & I feared that might progress to anaphylaxis.

One thing that was pointed out to me by a conscientious radiology tech is that the contrast needs to circulate for a minute or so before the scan. Apparently, this is a commonly cut corner, one that can compromise the images.

Venusone: apparently you are allergic to shrimp AND IV contrast. We do not premedicate those with shellfish allergy alone. Depending on the severity of prior contrast reaction, one may be a candidate for prophylaxis with Benadryl and prednisone before IV contrast (you truly need premedication!)

Also, as far as cutting corners not waiting for contrast to circulate. Nonsense, scan times following contrast injection vary depending on what I'm trying to diagnose (very short lag time = arterial phase, a little bit later= portal venous, a bit later = delayed phase).
