After reading lots of posts that posit the value of skid plates, I am considering putting them on my 430. However, before I buy them, I want to make sure that there is a reputable place nearby that is capable of installing them without issues.

I called the service dept at Miler Motorcars and asked them about skid plates. The gentleman I spoke with stated that while he was familiar with them and had seen a few, had never previously installed them. I'm more or less indifferent between the type (Premier, Hill, or custom fabricated) as long as it works. But, regardless of how "idiot-proof" the installation is, there is zero chance of me doing it myself.

Can somebody here recommend a skid plate installer who:
    - has previously performed multiple skid plate installations on 430s
    - is located within 50 miles of Greenwich
    - has a solid reputation for performing top-notch work

    Thanks for your help.

I did mine on my 355, very simple. Had to drill two holes for each skid plate, they're held on with recessed bolts with locknuts on top. I wouldn't worry too much about them being installed so perfect; I mean they need to be done right, etc., but after all this is the underside of the car and after a year they'll be fairly scraped up anyway.

My personal experience was that on a "low" car I wouldn't bother - I put them on my CS after repainting the bumper and then because I lost the extra 1cm or so of clearance I grounded it more often, and then when I hit a road bump at speed, the skid plate screws caused a big crack in the bumper. The bump in question was a rural road in NH, where the is often a "ridge" in the middle caused by the road sagging due to use.

I haven't bothered to refit them after the repair and didn't bother on my Scud. My personal philosophy is if you drive these things for a good number of miles you have to accept that you will repaint the front bumper. Some scrape repair isn't a big deal compared to the cost of the skid plates.

any place that can take the bumper off I say can do it.

they line up the holes and mark it, drill, then screw on, put bumper back on and align the bumper.

    done

    BJ,
We can install them here at our facility in Glen cove, Long island.
We install skid plates on ALOT of customer cars.
Yes you will lose a tad bit of clearance, but the skid plate becomes the sacrificial lamb.
While the install is pretty straight forward ,we do have some tricks to ensure longevity.
If you plan on or need to paint the bumper, I recommend that is done first, we also can handle the paint work offsite.
Any Ferrari/ Maserati service work needed can be performed as well.
