    My CTeK 7002 is maintaining a 3 year old Optima red top AGM battery. Usually the charger is in green - float mode and forgotten. Recently, I noticed the charger is "clicking" every 30 seconds or so. Does this mean the battery is starting to fail? Or is the charger failing?

    I am interpreting the 'clicking' sound as the pulse charge coming on and going off to keep the battery at full charge (trickle float). Normally I would never hear this on/off cycle while in the garage, but now it is very noticeable and occurs every 30 seconds or so.

    The car starts fine (full cranking power), but I suspect the battery is on its way out even though it's not used much and as been well maintained.

    It's most likely the battery getting weak.

    You can test the charger by putting it on a different battery.
