This is probably goin to get me flamed but I want to know if anyone has found or fabbed up a tasteful cup holder for the 308s. I love my car and drive it to work from time to time and stop at a local drive through for a coffee to drink at work. Can't drive and hold it...it's really precarious perched between the legs and if it leaks well I'll not only look like a toddler in potty training but I'll have scald balls.

You know I have a 71 volvo 1800E and believe it or not it did not come from the factory with a cup holder. But...on the transmission tunnel is mounted the seat belt retainer bracket and a coffee cup fits perfectly and securely between the release levers. Is there something like that in the Ferraris that I'm missing. Any ideas other than asbestos underwear?

    Putting flame suit on.

mount a coffee maker on the passenger side floor and get a long straw. On a more serious note take one of the screws out of the shifter plate and get one of the metal cup holder that slip over the window and bend it out straight and drill a hole through the end and attach that to the shifter plate with the factory screw so that the cupholder is by your leg within easy reach. No extra holes are drilled this way and no animal will be harmed in the making of your cupholder. If you can't find a metal cupholder get any that is available and take a piece of metal and form a bracket. Either method will not damage the car. For those on the site from the south without a nice car just get a old coffee can cut the top off, go out in the front yard to the scrap metal pile and get a piece of iron and duct tape it on to the hole where the radio used to be before your cousin stole it!!!!

Thanks EC308. I'll try that bracket to the gate thing. I've got a friend who is head of metal/aluminum shop complete with cnc machines so I'll have him look at it and we'll come up with something. Will post pics if it turns out.

It is funny that cup holders are such a recent innovation. They were popular on pleasure boats for many years before being adapted to automobiles.

I used to drive a '75 Chevy pickup that I had equipped with "Bar Buoy" cup holders. It was perfect for holding a can of Coke. It would swivel during cornering so the can always stayed vertical, no spill.

They might look pretty silly in a Ferrari but they got the job done.

call MTV, the've done a few of these on "Pimp my ride"

I remember one where they put a whole coffe maker in one.

Seriously... thats how you know you've mastered your ferrari. When you can drive AND hold your starbucks at the same time.

The all-wire one you pictured would go okay in a Ferrari since it's more "raw". A gimbal type appliance would work well. Maybe a folding unit like found in one of the Mercedes (I don't remember which model :() so it's less conspicious.

That 308 with the wire wheels off ebay has what looks like cup holders. Assume they're not original as the radio is also aftermarket.

Hey! I had a pair of those wire ones too! In my Ol' 58 Chev 4X4. They worked great! Don't think I would put them in the Dino though. :D

    Cheers!

West Marine sells a plastic fold-up drink holder that works great. Not sure about your model, but it fits PERFECTLY in the 328 console glove box.

As the clear worldwide leader in Ferrari cupholder technology, I was thinking after looking at some 308 gt/4 interiors - if you are interested in just a coffee cup or small can/water bottle, it would be EZ to get a speaker shop to fabricate and upholster a small cup holder to go in the door pocket. It would have a top with a hole, a back piece which could be secured to the door card with velcro, and a front and rear piece to make it look factory. I've whipped up a quick image showing a brown one in a black car so you can see the placement.

Would guess it would run $50 or probably less, work well, look factory, and not damage anything.

If you are not near an auto speaker fab shop, pm me the dimensions and I will have it done.

Russ, that's a great idea! I've got some woodshedding to do once I get back from vacation.

I find that the door pocket is not deep enough to fit most fast-food cups, or your typical water-bottle.

On my drive down to California, I would keep a drink in the rear seat, center bin where the seat-belt retractors are. The retractors keep the cup in place and you can place them so they can accomodate different size beverages (like those super-size fast-food drinks... Always need to stop at a couple of rest areas after drinking one of those :) ). It wasn't too awkward to reach behind and grab it, or put it back. It didn't wobble around either while driving (the bin is fairly deep).

I normally don't eat or drink in any car, but because it was exceptionally hot during that trip and the A/C don't work too good, drinking something was the next best thing to make that drive more pleasant.

Do you drive with your shoes on?

I don't. I like to drive barefoot (or with socks on), to get a much better feel for the car.

And what do you know? All of a sudden I find two very nice cup holders on the floor in front of my seat!!!

Just don't spill your coffee into these "cup holders". You'll hate yourself for that when putting them back on....
