1989-328 GTS-39K miles-Service Done. 39K Looks very good. Appears to have a solid ownership history. Obviously, its on the higher side of Ferrari mileage. And, it not red. But it appears to be well loved and well maintained. Is the price too high for the mileage? What would be a reasonable bargain for this car? Assuming another 30Kmiles of use for the next owner--is this thing going to be re-saleable? Assuming everything passes a good PPI, 39k is an excellent price for an '89. Put a deposit on it right away. They usually go for more than 45k to 50k around here. Ace
Wow! How many miles? The ace of all pilots is right - put a deposit on that car right away! A black/tan '89 GTS in that condition, pending a successful PPI, is worth more than $39K.
Seconded....grab it. And dont worry about resale values...buy it and enjoy the car. Its a work of art that you can drive!! PDG
If you don't buy it, I'm guessing about 30 people on F-chat will try to. Good price. Good looking car. The best thing is that if he's asking $39,000, he'll take $34,500. (So you offer $32,000 )
The car has 100K more miles in it if driven regularly, and at that purchase price 10 years down the road with 140K on it I'd park it behind the barn and let it rot when I was done. Resale? Buy stocks or a vacation house. These cars were built to be used up.......and rebuilt if we care. Keep in mind people don't care so much how many miles are on the Dinos if they can find one. Some day the miles on the odo will be irrelevant and people will wake up to condition as the number one factor......if you can find one
I'd agree that it appears to be a good deal. Keep in mind that the term "value" is meaningless - think of all the TV commercials, "A 50 DOLLAR VALUE FOR ONLY 19.95!!!!!!" The only thing that is important is what someone will pay. Anyone can claim that something is "worth" x thousand dollars but if no one will buy it at that price, the claim is just a marketing effort. Short story re this. Many years ago I was cleaning out the attic. Ran across all my old comic books. A friend who was helping me (and knew comic books) saw one particular old Superman and said, "WOW, this comic is worth 1800 bucks!" I said, "Really? You can have it for a thousand." He passed. Took it to a comic book store; owner said the same thing, "book value" was 1800 but he offered me 500. I said, "If it's worth 1800 I'd think you could offer me 1000 and make 800 bucks on the deal." But he said, "Regardless of what the book says, nobody would actually pay 1800 bucks for it - maybe a thousand at best." Same with the "value" of cars. Buy the Ferrari to enjoy it.
I noticed the license plate frame is from "Lake Forest SportsCars" They are a highly regarded Ferrari dealership just north of Chicago. Hopefully the current owner has all the service records. If not, try contacting LFSC and see what they can tell you about the car. Love the black/tan BTW... just my $0.02 Joe
If you have the cash, snatch that thing up after a PPI. That is a very fair price assumeing it has been cared for. Then drive it. My 308QV has 46k miles on it, and I know once it goes over 50k miles it won't sell for a lot, which means I get to keep it !!! MB
I have 105,000 on my '89 328. Head was off once. never overheats, runs great, as Keith Martin, in "Collecting Ferraris" says, these V8s are almost as reliable as a chevy V8. I would not hesitate buying it, in fact, with that kind of milage, it has probably been driven semi regularly, so it will not have all the problems of a car that spent all its time sitting in a garage.
Looks like a nice car for the price. To me, an '89 328 is like a 308 version 13, many bugs had been worked out and many enhancements added.
Please buy it, or I'm going to have to! I plan on getting another 328 this year and I'd prefer a later car ('88.5 or '89) so this fits the bill.
328s seem to have held their collective value surprisingly well during the economic downturn. I concur that this example appears to be an excellent deal at this asking price.
