    Hello Gentlemen of Sophistication,

Curious as to everyone's thoughts on the timing of buying a pre-loved F12 right now with the new F12 M about to be revealed in Geneva in March.

Obviously playing in this bracket of purchase, I'm not in the "being cheap" mindset, but I'm looking to optimize my timing as with anything else.

I don't wan't to pick up a previously loved F12 in the next 120 days and have it depreciate much more steeply in the short term due to the launch of the new v12 flagship which will get all the attention this Spring hit the streets in early 18.

Curious if anyone has deeper knowledge, experience or if there is any data to support what we should all expect on the value curve. How long might I wait for current pre-loved F12 pricing to stabilize / adjust again?

My other option is a new 488 Spider - amazing car, which I know will hold it's value much better being current model and also carrying higher US demand in general - but not the sophistication, power and SOUND of the F12 which has stolen my heart for sure.

Thanks in advance for the help and cycles.

    BZ

A 488 Spider new will lose more money than a pre-owned F12 and the 488 is not regarded with that much affection contrast say 355 and 458. Tread carefully.

Mac 720 will also hammer it.

The F12 is going to depreciate but should go no lower than the very very very top of the 599 F1 price range. For the same money few would choose the 599 F1 which, though a great car, is substantially overmatched by the F12.

    Flattery definitely helps here!

It depends which market you are in as U.K. is somewhat different from the US, but overall the F12 will depreciate but will still have the strong 599 residuals to support it. Europe would appear to be the weakest market at present, whereas the U.K. would appear to be one of the strongest.

It also very much depends on the question hovering over 812 pricing with some markets anticipating a lower price than the F12 which would obviously hammer F12 prices and others, like the UK, anticipating an increase which will help F12 values.

Regardless, it's an utterly brilliant car and value.

I've followed the prices of the F12's in continental Europe through auto scout 24 regularly during more than 6 months and despite of the fact that there were around ninety cars available for sale I got the impression that the prices haven't gone down. I checked several cars which haven't been sold during the last half year and the present listed prices are maintained the same.

Since I intended to buy the F12 I exchanged correspondence with several sellers, only in Germany, who had cars that interested me and got to the conclusion that the maximum discount they would make was around 5%. Based on my experience in the German market I can say the F12 prices are holding extremely well.

I Think F12 prices will gently come off further, but in a short while ( 1 or 2 years maybe) will stabalise and maybe one day rise. Going against the car is the fact that its quite plentiful (by "classic" standards) and that perhaps because it was so good there are no small batch roll out models to put your money on.
There was no need for an F12 HGTE or F12 FHP.

So the best bet is probably ultra low milage, popular colour and so on which you should never drive for fear of losing value.
Where though is the fun in that?
I'll be looking for a Verde English or Verde Zeltweg car with a good history..there must be what, 3 of those?

all Ferraris go through a similar curve. F12 is not going higher, it will slowly come off through 1-2 years of 812 production and then settle in to a comparative range of 599 + $30-50k. The 599 still has a little room to come down too.

I think that's about right, except it seems the 599 has ticked slightly upwards lately. My personal opinion is the F12 should be about $75k over a 599, the car is that much of a move above it, but its very possible the average delta will be in that $30-50k range.

It is close to $75k now. The 599 doesn't have as much to drop, so margins will narrow.

I think f12b will level off at 250k for cars under 10k mi good spec when the SF has been out for a year or so. Obviously if you want to get the " best deal " then it's better to wait another year and a half at least. But in my opinion you should just get the car now and enjoy it sooner. You can probably " bottom feed" for 250-260k within the end of the year.

I agree with both of you. My advice to the OP or anyone looking is so long as the money part is not make or break: enjoy today, you don't know what tomorrow may bring.

I do like the idea of a ~$200k (higher milage) 1.5 years from now...means I wont have to worry about putting more miles on it. I would get my value by actually driving it 5k per year, seems like the best approach for me...no interest in garage queens, life is too short

Some may say life is too short to not buy what you love especially because of few bucks. Makes as much sense as not driving the car just because of depreciation. Either way your not driving a Ferrari. If you wait another 5 or 6 years it may even be less - save more money. Everyone likes to save money and get a good deal and that's great but to deny experiencing what makes you happy is cruel especially if you really can afford it.

Yea to the post above, I think some people value the accumulation of wealth more than the experience of driving the car. Therefore they would rather wait. I personally would rather be driving

you can still get the Ferrari experience without owning the models within the depreciation years. I have no problem with people who accept the depreciation, but with Ferraris you can time it well because it is most severe within a short period and very predictable.

And the cars are always special, so whether its a new model or a pre owned one, you are getting a special car that exists outside the usual boundaries of how much performance are you getting for your money. Its entirely your choice. I've done it both ways for various reasons and no matter how you slice it- Ferraris are special.

I visited a friend very sick in the hospital yesterday, just for some added perspective on enjoying the now.

I just got home from the cardiac surgery ward at John's Hopkins today. I can tell you no BS that life is precious and waiting for the bottom can be a foolish strategy. I will be driving my F12 this year and every year. The bottom can be very deep my friends.
