i'm wondering what it is because i've seen anything from 45K up to 120K for a nice car. for my own purposes, i'm interested in the market value for a car in "driver" condition. let's say for the sake of completeness the car has at least 5 years of service history and the lambo equivalent of a major service done within the past 5 years. no accident history, has most of its books/tools. any insight is appreciated.

I've been looking at them, along with LP400 S1 cars. I would expect to pay $150,000 for a good LP400 and close to that- maybe more- for a good LP400S1
There is a nice car available in CA now, I believe the owner has it listed with Cats, in the $150k+ range

Yep! The car I am negotiating is -in $$`s!!- 197,500! The LP 400 deserves it as it is the much better driver than the "Holy" Miura SV!

    Ciao!

The 1973-1977 cars current market values look like anywhere from $48k-$73k

The 1978-1982 LP400S models are currently valued at $39-$64k. Odd seeming.

I would have to believe that the early cars, pre-S, would fetch increasing dollars, given their relative scarcity- while the market may not yet be at the point where drivers are worth restoring, that day will have to come sooner for these cars than the later Countach. (IMO, the early one is by far the best looking ).

Because the numbers on that website (and most of the price guides) are hopelessly out of date. There hasn't been a running LP400 sold that I know of in years that went for less than $90,000 back in the "good" days.....good luck finding one now for less than a buck and a half.

There is not a LP400 or LP400 S1 for that kind of money anywhere and hasn't been for quite a while. Prices are 2-3 times that now and heading north each day. The days of sub-$100k LP400 and LP400 S1 are long gone. Roys recent sale at $155k makes 5 cars this year that have sold for more than $140k. Can $200k be too long from now?

I think it is impossible to find any decent LP 400 for under 150K. I think the car will double in price, in around five years time. Their are just so few cars to go around. This will be a car, that someone will say, "remember when you could buy one for that."

You cannot go by any published price for actual market value. I have a recent English mag, that claims a Miura SV in show condition will fetch 200K. A Miura SV with weeds growing thru the car, is worth more money than that.

How do you actually define market value with rare cars ? With so few cars, it comes down to what someone will actually take, to let his car go. The other problem, is that quite a few typical Countach buyers, tend to group all the models together, and are unaware of the Countach pecking order. Their are actually quite a few different models that were produced over the years.

Many of you speak the truth. Finding a Countach of virtually any model is next to impossible for under 60, with the exception of the 2 valve FI cars that are making the rounds. These are cars that are escalating quickly and will soon be at very respectable levels.
Infact in short order I believe a good QV or Even 5000s 2V will be worth more than a used Gallardo.

The S1 is an exceptionally hard car to locate.

I only know of a total of four cars in the USA. In addition to these four cars, I am aware of a car that needs a total restoration, and the black Cannonball car. The 1980 Cannonball car, did not come from the factory, with the desireable five hole Bravo magnesium wheels. It is the last S1 car produced by the factory. Nonetheless it is a movie star !

There may be a handful more LP 400S1 autos in the USA ? 1 or 2 ?

The factory produced approx 51 S1 cars, before taming the car into the S2.

    Agreed.

As the 360 will be worth less than a 512 Boxer.

I know of one with 1000 km on it in Canada. The owner also has a Periscopa and several other incredibly desirable cars. Unbelievable.

Exactly! I brookered a 1st owners SV with split-sump and a/c, still in its perfect 1st. paint one year ago for Euro (no, no $$$`s!!) 370,000! Little later BONHAMS sold one for Euro (no, still no $$$$`s!!) 400.000! Little ago, one SV, very similar to "my" car was sold in the US -yesss, now in.....- $$ 680,000!

    take your conclusion!

    Ciao!

The LP400 S1 was produced until early 1981, with VIN 112310 being the last S1 built with the "Dallara Lo-Body" configuration. The Cannonball car is VIN 1121112. Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal S1 was VIN 1121164.

    From the Lamborghini Registry:

"These Countaches are the best handling Countaches (as their slalom times show when tested by Road & Track etc.) and can be described as the very definitive Countach, with a much advanced handling setup complete with P7s, as the Countach was originally intended. There were 155 Countach S Series Ones built and 82 of the Series 2. It is also interesting to note that Ferruccio Lamborghini himself, chose a white Countach S #1121164 to keep in his collection (which included almost every production model including a Miura SV #5028) during the 80's."

Very few of these cars are around, especially in the US.

Afaik, the lowbody LP400S1 production was completed in the middle of 1980, with the completion of the Cannonball car.

The L.R., is not gospel. I do not know of any 1981 S1 cars, that were built by the factory. Also it is generally assumed that approximately 27 cars were built by the factory with the Bravo magnesium telephone dial wheels (1978-1979). By 1980 some cars were no longer were built, with the higher lift cams and bigger carbs. After completion of the S1, the roof was raised, and the car was also raised.

At the time L was running into huge ownership, financial, and management difficulties.
