I know the GBP and Euro auction prices are high and optimistic. But it is wise to keep the value assessments based on the US auctions. The results over here are very far apart from the UK and Euro and based on our economy, not the euro and UK. You can see many US auction results via Mecum, Russo Steele, auctionamerica, etc.

The sales speak for themselves, nothing optimistic at all, just hard data. Good clean examples continue to fetch higher and higher numbers.

Besides, this is a global forum about Ferrari, not just US Ferrari.

Also, given the number of cars worldwide, they'll go back and forth across the world according to demand. I remember when the financial crisis hit the U.S., a lot of Diablos started going to Europe.

A U.S. Testarossa is road legal in Europe isn't it?

What's also interesting is how the 512TR doesn't carry the same weight in Europe as it does in the U.S.. isn't this the 3rd one that went lower or at the same price as a Testarossa? Correct me if I'm wrong.

512TR is an epic car, but from all the people I've talked to the main strength that it brings to the party is the handling, due to the updated chassis. The power output between the TR and the Testarossas isn't worlds apart. I'd love to get my hands on a 512tr at some point, but I think I'm going to go with another Testarossa. I love the no power steering and the primitive feel where you're bonding with the car :)

To clarify, I didn't mean high and optimistic in general, just high and optimistic when compared to the us auction results. Perhaps we have more of these cars over here than they do? Anyone know?

The TR still has manual steering. I was at a concourse years ago with a 512TR next to my Testarossa. I looked back and forth...back and forth and instead of "upgrading" I decided to start looking for a Diablo to add to the Testarossa.

Nice move, thanks for clarifying about the steering. Could have sworn it did. I think I had it brain-farted with the diablos, as the older diablos had the manual steering and the newer ones switched over to power.

Yes...91-93 Diablo manual steering and heavy clutch
94 onwards, power steering and redesigned clutch slave cylinder for "slightly" lighter pedal.

I've gone through the process with mine when I moved to Europe with my TR and it is not a straight forward process, but it will depend on how tolerant the person in charge of your application is; it can go technically speaking as far as changing all windows, tires, headlights, and seat belts.

From an emission standpoint, the US TR is indeed running cleaner than its euro cousin, so that make some things easy, but overall the U.S. Testarossa is not road legal as is in Europe.

Thanks for that information. I always thought that since our laws were stricter (emissions) that everything else was straight forward. I remember that the Testarossa was the first Ferrari built from scratch to accommodate US regulations.

I just replaced my McLaren 12C with an LFA. And kept the TR. That should tell you something. ;)

Cool, a Testarossa and an LFA - a great combination of old and new - what a contrast!

Yes I will try and post a few more US results - but you guys do everything so big!

It`s a bit different keeping an eye on our auctions with 50-100 cars, compared to yours with sometimes 300+!

Still I think the euro prices could give a good idea of where US prices are heading - they are european cars after all and that`s their home ground - and probably where most of them will end up as they get more collectable.

Loads of E-types and 911`S were imported here not so long ago when they were massively cheaper in the US.

As for the UK itself - as far as I know - unless things have changed in the last year or so, it`s simple to use a LHD US car in the UK.

All I can think of invlolves the lighting only - changing the the rear turn signals to orange (and isolating them from the brake lights), replacing the headlights with ones that dip in the correct direction and making sure they have some form of clear/white lights what we call side lights (even though they are not on the side) - which on US cars are often amber and also used as front turn signals. Oh and we need a rear fog light.

Nothing else major to do on a car of the Testarossa vintage, except put one of our ugly front license plates on!

The first thing most people do when they get a US spec. car back to the UK is to remove all the emisions (including the cats).

There`s been an influx of Japanese sourced cars to the UK over the past year -and for some reason Swiss. As these sources dry up it will be the US cars that get imported - simply because it`s do that or pay the premium for a full euro car - or even bigger premium for a RHD UK car - or do without!

    Dom.

That pic is from Saturday night, two days ago. Even though the LFA is brand new to me and begging my every drive, sometimes you open the garage and the night just belongs to the Testarossa. The air was cooling at dusk, I knew the flat 12 would gulp the extra density and just deliver that turbine-smooth thrust. Windows down, headlights up (just because) and slowly stretching her out until you feel the tires finally come up to temp and she's willing to dance just a little bit.

And of course, after the family is sound asleep, sneak back into the garage and breathe it in.. you know what I'm talking about!

Doesn't seem to much inventory in the US for the 512TR currently.
Ebay had a few listings about a month ago but now just one.
One was about 22k miles for $249k now gone.
One was about 15k miles at $315k now gone.
There is just one remaining on Ebay doing auction style with about 54k mi.
Dealer said it will take $165k

Even with safety regulations, I still see the USA as being an untapped market for export. I have been wondering how many of our TR's are getting loaded up in containers and being shipped over to Europe.

Miami Vice TR going to auction. Mecum has now been tasked with auctioning off the Ferrari, which will happen at the*Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on August 15. The auction is one of the satellite events for the*2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance*taking place that weekend. It listed last year at $1.75M -- crazy money

    Current Testarossa Values
    Hello all,

Just curious to all your thoughts on values of 1985-1989 Testarossa. Is it true that the 85-86 "flyinging mirror" are the most desirable and collectable (excluding 512 and M ofcoarse), over the 87-89? Thanks for the feedback.

IMHO, at the moment that appears to be the case.
