You buy your straw hats in the winter. The "black sheep" of the Ferrari world is doing just fine.

The red '87 sold for £73,000 GBP all in - about 101k euro, $113k US.

The blue '90 sold for £67,500 GBP all in - about 94k euro, $105k US.

Yeah all of this thread is less than a year old!

The blu chiaro at Coys really looked like a lovely car. Interior was pristine. £67.5k seems really low. Any guesses why it went for so much below estimate? Is blu chiaro not a desirable Testa colour? Was it a risk to sell such an 'individual' car at auction instead of market it patiently?
For me the 87 was less nice; some non-original bits and just not quite so perfect inside (and higher miles of course). Yet it was on the higher side of estimate.
Is this just a colour thing?
I have no interest in these cars, but would love an insight from Fchatters who buy and sell for a living...

The Tr makes this prestigious 10 greatest Ferraris list. This should help inflate some asking prices. :)

I'm happy to see my TR in this list. But boy, is this guy gonna get flamed! Making such a list is...well..suicide!

He will be flamed by some and appreciated by others. A good push for my two cars but no GTO makes no sense to me.

Ah I thought there were a few at an auction this weekend - but couldn`t remember where - so that must have been it!

Yeah looks like the White 512TR was unsold along with the 88 Yellow Testarossa - but the 89 Red one presumably sold as it doesn`t say still available.

There don`t seem to be any more at auction over here atm - looks like next ones are at the auctions on your side of the atlantic in August, unless I`ve missed some more....

Auctions America says they will be posting results later today or tomorrow. Anxious to hear the results, as I have a Testarossa nearly identical to lot 2108 for sale.

Cheers for the info from your side of the Atlantic!

    Anyway $112k for a 25k miles `89.

It can`t be much more than a year ago that some people were saying don`t pay more than $50k for one because you`ll loose money on it.

So anyone who took their advice and waited now has to fork out $100k+ for one instead of $50k!

Life`s too short - if you`ve always wanted one and can afford it buy one now while you still can :)

doesn't this represent somewhat of a good deal for a flying mirror car. It comes with all the original parts to revert it back to original spec.

Non OEM wheels, rear engine cover ripped apart. looks like a 55 grand car to me. But if you think it's worth 6 figures, go get it :)

The ad clearly says it has all the original parts to return the car to original spec. Could you please elaborate on why you think this car is worth 55k

I'm going by what I have seen in the past (mid 90s to today) as an enthusiast, and based on value and production number (quantitity available). That car is worth whatever it was in late 12, early 13 give or take 5-10 percent. I have more faith in what has dictated the value amongst enthusiasts over the past 15-20 years (240 months), not 18 months. Just my opinion. Also the condition and pedigree of the car in its current state would immediately make me look elsewhere if I were in the market at the current time.

This is a fair and accurate statement of the current climate (past 18 months). But how many of those forking out 100k+ are actual enthusiasts with plans of keeping the car for 2-6 years or more, servicing and driving it? This is the million dollar question. I think the answer may shock you...

I have an answer for you and it's one of the reasons why I'm selling. The Testarossa and Diablo have become collectibles. ..like the BB512 and the Countach before them.

They won't be driven as daily drivers like I do but will be works of art in collections brought out for special occasions and special concours events.
My Diablo VT Roadster has been going through the roof in terms of value. Well, I still drove it as a daily driver and an accident found me....on a clear open road with no traffic. While I will be compensated if it's repaired or totaled but it will never be a top tier vehicle again. Unless, the value goes so high, it gets a top to bottom restoration by a top restoration shop.

The Testarossa is the same. Seeing what happened out of the blue, do I really want to drive a collectible as a daily driver?

A super cool Lamborghini or Ferrari.....yes! Just not a collectible.

If you asked me, I'm selling too soon but, I'm not a collector. I'm heading towards one over the top car and that car is an Aventador for me.

I'm no collector either. Cheers to seeing you with the highest mileage Aventador out there!

This coming from a guy that bought a smashed up/ rebuilt testarossa for 45 grand and then ran within 24 months to sell for almost Double the minute you could, and here you are questioning the integrity of others spending 100k + if they are enthusiasts? And if they will keep their cars?

    Really ???????

If for for only one reason for these cars going past 150 and staying there is keep people like you out !

OEM wheels and the stock engine cover (four bolts) can be restored within an hour and YOU would never know the difference. (and I'm not pushing the 6 figure sell either)

    Shamile,
You really hit the nail on the head. I never got into Ferrari to own a collectible, but I suddenly found myself with a car that was so special and so pristine that I felt guilty driving it and was terrified I would do something to damage it. I became a custodian... and I found I didn't like that part of the experience and that I just simply stopped driving the car. I've had the 12c for two months now and I've driven it 1500 miles...more than I drove the TR all of last year. I've also taken it places I would never take the TR, like to run errands. I even took her to our shore house and parked her on the street for the weekend.

To me the TR was such an icon, such a hero...and I felt it deserved to be on a pedestel. Dumb I know, but I couldn't shake it as hard as I tried. Im sure she will live the rest of her life in a bubble somewhere, but I get to drive a car that I can enjoy without fear...I'm sure you will find the same with your aventador, though it appears you got plenty of use out of both your girls! ;)

Never questioned anyone's integrity. Why the accusation? I clearly stated, if you think its worth six figures go get it.

Also, I sold it for an obvious reason. Selling a car that I believe is GROSSLY overvalued and can be easily replaced in the near future does not make me a non-enthusiast. Especially when I had no intentions of selling when I did purchase the car. Plenty of TRs left in the sea. I will buy another when I chose to.

Lastly, I bought a smashed up rebuilt title car because it was the ONLY car on the market at that time that ran like a son of b*tch and performed the way a Testarossa is supposed to perform. I drove 5 other "non smashed up cars" before that one, and they were all DOGS. I'd rather have a smashed up/rebuilt title car that is clean as a whistle, looks near perfect and runs properly, than a clear title car that can't pull a dead whore out of bed.
