Life is short.

If you don't expect that owning a Ferrari is expensive and unpredictable then be careful. These are toys, not investments. If you can afford it and have the right expectations - go for it.

 

I wouldn’t be surprised if prices fall off from here. If you think you want to invest in a car, it needs to be a special edition with lower mileage. So think Speciale.
Personally I prefer something I feel like I can drive just about any day and I fully expect to lose money on it if I’m forced to sell. But I have zero intention of selling

 

Go into it with the expectation that you could lose 50% of the value. If that is too much you should probably look at something less expensive that meets your budget. I expect to lose money on every car purchase but I am fine with that, as that is the price I’m Willing to pay for the enjoyment. If I lose less, it is a bonus, if I make money that is like hitting the jackpot.

 

Get the right car, with the right specs, a 458 is a pretty good investment. Check out Hagertys.

 

My guess is that prices have plateaued now. We will have to see what the economy and market does in 2022 but it seems unlikely to me that prices will rise much further and more likely they will either stay steady or perhaps trend down. Unless the market crashes I don't see a major retreat in prices. Please note that I am a notoriously unlucky guesser.

 

325 plus 10 percent premium on 458 S at BJ tonight

 

But only $230 + 10% for a 2014 Spider last night. And a 488 Spider pulled $460k!

 

This market is crazy, and I’m sure prices will dip eventually. Just not so sure how soon. I don’t think they can continue going up much higher, but they may hold steady. Ferrari order book is well sold. New 296 orders are 2yrs out and other than Porto & Roma all the other models are done with production going another couple years. I think you have a good 1-2yrs before new orders put any pressure on more recent models. Even then you may see some continued interest from people who favor V8s or NA 12s.

Inflation I think plays positively into car values here. But a crashing stock market at some point will dry up the buyers and pressure folks to sell. That’s the real near term risk.

Mecum and now BJ have seen crazy numbers across the board. The 458s at BJ weren’t particularly impressive examples either. What else are you going to bu F car-wise? I’m sorry but I’ll hold my 458S forever as opposed to 400k and a two plus year wait on a 296, and the 296 spider hasn’t even been previewed! Safe money and investment money.

 

That 488 was hideous LOL. I cannot imagine someone wasted a Tailor Made spot for that example. Some people just dont deserve money
