Paint the floor mats tan or black along with the steering wheel and it will look awesome.

I think you are on the right track, just need a lot of detailing to do still.

About the "flashy silver paint" you have to be careful of not using metallic colors that are "out of scale". In this case the silver flakes are too big for the model's size. If I have to take a guess it looks better in person because the camera's flash probably epitomizes the individual shine of every single "flake".
Painting is not just point and shoot. there is a lot more involved.

I think its very good for your first model. However I too dont like the silver and not enough detail for the interior (all red). But its way better than what I can do. Thats why if there is a model that I want done I have Lucky do it.

Around 2000 in Forza magazine was this advertising by a company called "Euro coachworks" (I am not sure how correct the name is).
The custom modified 550 Barchetta on the ad turned out to be a project they were working on- Converting a stock 550 maranello into a custom Barchetta. I loved the look of it , so I made it in 1:18 about 5 years ago. I have learned a lot since then and if I were to do the car again I would probably do some things differently, but it still looks cool today.

The main mods are the ground effects. The bottom of the car has been brought down quite a bit and then painted body color. The front lip has been redesigned and it comes out forward a lot more than the stock. The roll bars were removed and everything was smoothed out. The interior received "the treatment" and the headlight buckets were painted black. The black portion of the body where the roll bars were is red on the original project, but I thought it would look cool if I left it alone.
I don't think the wheels and the brakes need to be mentioned.
