Any reccomendations on a place to have a half dozen dress shirts made?? I went to Mel Gambert in Cladwell for my last shirts and was really unhappy with the results. Not looking to pay $500 a shirt but my neck to weight ratio throws off my dress shirt size so off the rack doesn't cut it... Prefer NJ but could hit NYC.

I've had really good results with Brooks Brothers. The tailor at the flagship store in Manhattan is excellent (his name escapes me).

Check out the Tom James Company.

They have been making my suits & shirts for over a decade.

Don't have their website info - use google.

Not sooo expensive and they come to you!

    Cheers

Every shirt in my closet is custom b/c I can't stand the 'puffy blouse' look that most guys' shirts come with, and I too have an odd neck-to-waist ratio (big neck, thin waist).

    Best two options I've found:

    Hi-end, local:
    http://www.astorandblack.com/

Jessica is the NYC sales rep. She's friendly, bubbly, and will come directly to your home/office with fabric samples. Shirts are around $80 - $100 a pop (I think), sport coats range from $750 - $1200, and full suits $1500 and up. Quality is high-end, but not out of this world.

    Uber-bargain:
    http://www.eurocollections.net/

Guy named Mac Narula - "Mac the Thai Tailor" ... he lives and has a shop in Thailand, but does a US tour 2x - 3x a year. When he's in town, you go to his hotel suite, he has a book of the latest fabric samples, and you load up.

Downside -- their in-house designers are not great, so best results come if you already have a favorite custom shirt/suit that you can loan them for a few weeks. They'll make a duplicate of the pattern and stamp out as many shirts as you want in as many different fabrics as you want. Some fabrics are extremely high quality, so you can get really excellent results.

Upside: Obscenely cheap...as in, $30 - $40 per shirt, suits for $500 - $750. Zegna fabric suits (the highest-end fabrics out there...stateside places charge $2500-$4000+) are $1200. Can't beat the deal.

    Noah's suggestions sound good.

I've gotten my favorite custom shirts in Hong Kong. You might be able to order on-line. I'll see if I can dig up my taylor's info.

zjpj can edumify us on suit tailoring and construction... He posted a thread once that blew my mind. Can't seem to find it, though.

    Jim,

The best shirtmakers in your price range are Geneva and Paris Custom Shirts. These are real bespoke, not expensive made-to-measure where you are paying mostly for the brand's marketing. I like Geneva. Expect to be a touch under $300 a shirt. http://www.genevacustomshirts.com/

There are more options in the $100-$200 range, both locally and with the traveling Asian tailors, as Noah suggests.
