I have a couple of CV boot banding tools in my toy box, but apparently not the right one....

The two I have are for Band-It type clamps and the tab lock with lift and pinch. But apparently there is yet another tool for the factory type bands. Below is what were on my car and the same type are supplied by Rutlands with their CV Boot kits.

Can someone recommend or show the right tool make and model for setting these bands correctly?

    Thanks,
    Rick

I have two banding tools as well, and neither would work on that band. When I ordered my kit (from the Porsche 930), I just abandoned the supplied bands and used my own.

I did the Porsche fix on mine (thread to come) and I had to buy crimping pliers from Napa to get it right. Some bands use the 'band it' too and some are designed to use conventional tools like pliers and a screwdriver.

    Excellent thread Dave!!!
However, although you did recommend them, I couldn't see if you used jack stands...as you know, this would be potentially unsafe.

Additionally, Ernie's comment about using the screwdriver works very well; be sure to remove the inner bolts (nearest the differential) first so you still have the stop.

Always use jack stands to safely work on a raised vehicle!
My car is so low that I must use the scissor jack to get the car high enough to slide my floor jack under before I can place stands.

I do that too. If I'm lifting the whole car, I can use the floor jack. I just couldn't see any stands in any of the pics and the scissor jack was very noticeable.
