Hello I hope someone in this forum can help me ☺ I have a loud clunky noise comming from my right rear axle shaft. I have changed the outer CV-joint, but it seems, that the new CV-joint (superformance UK) is to loose. Is it normal, that the inner bearing moves 0,5 inch? Everything looks okay. Now Im wondering . maybe it should move like that. The CV-joint towards the gearbox, dont have this looseness. I have a new spare CV-joint. Is it wise to change that one too? It has the same looseness Jesper Denmark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Make sure you grease it! yes that looks correct there is space in it to compensate for the bumps! is the first picture the old one?
The shaft/CV-joint has already been greased and mounted into the Mondial, but it still had the "clunky" noise. Im a bit frustrated...... Next move, is to change the innner CV-joint towards the gearbox. Picture nr 2 is the old CV-joint. All the other Pictures are the new one.
. One member here made a youtube video on changing the cv joint... (sorry I do not have the link, but I am sure it can be located with effort).
Hi guys, I've done a video, if you look under YouTube at 'thehelidoctor' you'll see all my Ferrari build videos, it's in there. In this case I would pop the driveshaft back in put the car in gear, engine off, and rock the car back and forth on the ground whilst holding the shaft, to determine it is actually the drive shaft and not the output bearings from your diff or a wheel bearing. It just seems odd that a new unit would be making the same noise as the old unit. Be aware also that those bearings on the driveshaft s do telescope in and out to allow for suspension travel. Regards Bell.
If it's making the same sound you, most likely, have replaced the wrong part. Is there any play in the stub axle to hub interface? How about the chance noise is really coming from other side of the vehicle? I would put pressure back and fourth on the axles while vehicle is on the ground and in the air. With vehicle wheels chocked, and trans in neutral, lift one rear wheel off the ground and have a helper rotate tire back and forth while you listen and "feel" for the clunk.
Thank you for your response I will now change the inner CV-joint and install the axle in my Mondi. If this doesn't solve the problem, I will proceed with your suggestions. I will let you know Bell, I have seen your video before I started to Work on the CV-joint. Great job. Keep up the good work. I enjoy doing the mechanic jobs myself I also saw this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GN9ZLdZ10M I had to be sure, that my assembly of the bearing was correct
