Anybody know why a tiny tube of Hylomar gasket maker is included in the OEM CV joint boot kits I got for my 355??

Where is it supposed to be applied? Under the areas compressed by the band clamps (between the shaft and the rubber boot)?
Where the "tin" cap seals the open end of the CV joint?

I've never seen this before. Normally a quality boot with correctly tightened clamps seals just fine.

It's probably to use between the boot and shaft. It never fully "sets-up", so it will provide an efficient seal. God, I love (the real Hylomar). The Permaseal Hylomar is no longer the original formula. There's a company in the UK manufacturing and selling the "real", original Hylomar. Expensive, but great.

it should be applied between the metal cap and the CV joint face.

You are correct, Sir. I should have taken a look in the WSM before opening my big mouth. Thanks.

Save it for a water pump or thermostat gasket. It isn't needed for CV joints.
