Hi, I am new to this forum, would like to share some of your experience in what I have face now. I have a 1986 Mondial Cab and recently I managed to damaged the cambelt during one of my drive and now we are stripping the engine down but we could not removed or seperate the cover from the engine block after removing all the nuts, seems very tight, any ideal how can we seperate this ? is this is common problem when cambelt fail or is it due to overheating which I did not have ? Any comment and or advice very much appreciated. Best rgds

Probably more due to the sealant they used when they put it together the last time than overheating/cambelt failure. You need to use utmost caution:
    - DO NOT pry between the cover and block because you will mar the sealing surfaces
    - you can only LIGHTLY tap on the cover at several spots around the perimeter with a small rubber mallet. Alternate between spots.

some modrate hits with a rubber hammer is the appropriate route.

If I remembe correctly, there are a couple of little detents in the cover where one can place a suitably sized screw driver to help the freeing up process. Just remember light taps with the rubber hammer on the head of the screwdriver--take your time and all will be well.

Assuming the lack of release is from sealant, just be sure to get all that stuff off before reinstalation.

I had the problem with the cam cover on my 87. As said above, too much sealant was used. It was like a rubber band, I could get a little motion but it kept springing back into place. I used wood shims to retain the gap. Took me more than an hour of slowly getting it loose.
