I measured the cover from the spark plug holes to the rail and the plug holes are .031 proud of the rails.

    Plug o-ring groove is .0275 deep and o-rings .040 (so .0125 proud)

Removed gasket (compressed of course)- .0305

Eurospares gasket .0425 When installed the cover barely touched the o-rings at spark plug holes.

Superformance gasket .0350 Still too thick.

    Ricambi gasket .031 Perfect

I have no idea about consistency, just thought it's worth mentioning that it is something that should be measured.

If too thick you will have no sealing at the plug holes and less than optimal compression of the o-rings at ends of cover.

Many aftermarket gaskets and seals are out of spec. Especially seals and O rings. Most suppliers are just buying generic seals and O rings. Many times close but not correct. Many around here reject the idea but a lot of those small differences are important. Look at what the really good shops use. They do it for a reason.

Thats not to say in every case the currently supplied OE are best. There are exceptions and head gaskets are a good example. But you need to know how to pick and choose.
