Ive finally come close to have enough money to purchase a SLR. about 4-5 months ago i was deciding between the Rebel XT and the Nikon D50. I had come to the decisition of getting the Canon Rebel XT. About 1 week ago i was talking with my father about the XT when he had told me that he had seen a Nikon D50 with lens(18-55mm) and acouple of accesories for $899CDN. Thats a very resonable price considering the Canon Rebel XT costs ruffly $1,200CDN with the same lens(18-55mm) and no accesories. Considering the price's i could get the D50 as soon as 2-3 weeks from now, but if i went for the Canon Rebel XT i would have to wait about 1-2 months longer. I really want to get one ASAP so i can start learning to use it, but i do really prefer the Canon Rebel XT. I've only heard good things about both camera's, therefore each camera would be a good choice. i plan on getting a 28-300mm lens later on once ive got enough money, and with the D50 i would be able to get it sooner. What do you guys think i should do? But the D50 once i have enough? Or continue saving and get a Canon Rebel XT?

Can't really add much since i haven't used either but i have a D70 and love it. I've seen the XT and i think my D70 looks more like a digi - slr. Its a joy to use and as i said in another thread here, the 2 are so close that in the end its down to personal preference.

Despite the topic, I thought you meant the McMerc SLR! I'm losing it... fast. Oh and I'd recommend the XT. I used it for about a week, was amazing! Can't go wrong with it.

For all of you saying the XT is amazing etc etc, did you try the D50 or D70 to compare? He asked for a comparison, saying your XT is great doesn't mean much if you haven't used the D50

I suggest you check out http://dpreview.com/ if you already haven't, its a great site and is loaded with info

It's probally out of your price range, but B&H has the DCS PRO/c for $2795bux.

I just bought one, that's a hell of a camera (14mpixel, full frame 35mm sensor, nearly medium format level in an SLR body) for less than 3k.
