Love my 308 but it's not a daily. My Lexus is getting old and have a few choices. For a ~100K, what would you get? Had a chance to take the two for a spin and having a hard time deciding. Any other option ideas?

I recently posted a similar thread comparing the 360 to the 458 for use as a daily. The 360 is more affordable obviously.

My guess is that logically the GT3, or any modern Porsche, is probably more practical as a daily driver due to Porsche reliability and how long maintenance can take if something breaks. But it sounds like the 360 will do the job as well. I think this one is more about whether you're a die hard Ferrari guy or Porsche guy.

Depends on the model GT3.....a $100k budget would only get you a. 997.1 which I would not use as a daily. If you can get to $125k, a 991.1 would work nicely.

Definitely a Ferrari guy with my 308...but die hard? As long as there are other marquees that float my boat, I'll always consider them. Older GT3 was in my price range...and fast and furious!

Trying...operative word, to stay within budget. Test drove an older GT3, so probably a 997.1. I'll research but why not a good DD?

Hey, I was going to upgrade to the lastest Lexus, but I've been conservative far too long.

360 I think is better as a daily. The suspension is a bit softer and won't wear you out as fast. The Porsche is basicly a race car with some trimmings. I think it would get tiresome as a daily.

That said..as a weekend toy..the Porsche would win hands down. It's an amazing car. But for me not a daily.

Any Ferrari can be a daily if you have enough money. :)

I drive my 360 at least twice a week, but I wouldn't want to commute in it. If I wanted a daily driver in a Ferrari I'd get an FF. Decent early ones are down to about $130K now, but still headed down. I'd also prefer a 612 over the 360 for commuting, and you can get one for about $100K these days, and I think they are near the bottom of the depreciation curve (The early ones).

I agree! But they're still in the $150 range. Want to keep under a buck.

Boxsters have come a long way. Going from 8 cylinders to 4 would be a stretch. The note "they" say is a Subaru whine.
Just read about the 488 winning the International Engine of the Year Award 2 years straight! Still not enough in my jar but maybe worth the wait.

I use a 997.2 S convertible as a daily driver & LOVE it. It is reliable as a stone, comfortable and, when you set the buttons to Super Sport is fast and stable. “They” say its as fast as the 612, but I don’t think so.
My 612 OTO is great but too delicate, expensive and attracts too much attention to leave it in the parking area.

I daily my 997.1 and it's absolutely wonderful. I'd say the GT3. I'd do it and I've entertained it. Metzger engine, reliability, performance.. what's not to like.

You *could* daily the 360.. I'd do it if I had a covered parking spot at work.. but the Porsche will be more reliable.

How close is your budget to 458 territory? If I could swing the roughly 180k for a 458 coupe as a daily for when I'm in CA, it would be a no brainer for me. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Reliability, tame when you want it, wild when you want it. Best of all worlds. From my research comparing the 360 to the 458, the 360 is what you'd expect - a little older, a little more prone to need service more often, a little less refined, but very drivable, even on a daily basis. Some people have heightened "wear and tear phobia" when it comes their Ferrari's in comparison to their other cars, and I think if you daily drive a car the wear is unavoidable. So maybe try and assess what kind of person you are? Will you care more about wearing out the interior and racking up miles on a Ferrari than you would care with a Porsche, thus making you less likely to really use it daily?

I'd probably pick the 360 for a daily over a Porsche myself. Porsches are amazing cars but what they excel at, design and precision, they lack in romance. To me driving any Ferrari is a more romantic endeavor than driving pretty much any other car, which does it for me, personally.

That's a good question, "What kind of person are you?" A few have alluded to the Ferrari as "too delicate", "too much attention", "need a covered parking spot"... That to me is not the purpose of a daily driver. If I may ramble- A DD should offer the fun but not the worry. My Lexus is no fun, but no worries either. Can a person have both...with the romance? I like the attention my 308 gets, but that's not my DD. I like the power and precision of the GT3, but do not crave. For my DD, I need worry-free...with the mystique.

Not very close. In the middle of a 308 restore. But I agree, the 458 is a no brainer for me too. If I do not go for the 360 or GT3 soon, I may bite the Lexus bullet and wait for the ultimate ride!

For what it's worth, I agree on your definition of a DD. I hate street parking any car, and would prefer at least a car port for a Ferrari DD, but that's nit picking.

For what it's worth, everyone from forum members to my mechanic to others have told me a 360 will work just fine as a DD, many from direct experience. The only caveat I got related to using one as a DD in Southern CA. They said the bright sun will cook the interior. But I don't mind redoing stuff like that every 5-10 years, or rolling around on cracked leather for a while. Anything for romance! Haha.

I'm doing a rolling restoration of my 360, and I must say, the leather is only about 70% and I am actually enjoying not worrying about it. In 3-5 years I'll have the entire interior restored, and then I'll have to be more careful. The exterior has clear bra, so I don't have to worry about that for a bit too. First job has been the drivetrain, and removing all the aftermarket electronics. That was an epic bill. :)

I traded my 360 in on a GT3. The 360 wasn't a daily anything. Spent more time in the shop than in my garage. The GT3 is bulletproof.

You guys are in a great scenario. You have the dreamy car but not in creampuff condition. Is this the best of both worlds...worry-free mistique?
