Having never driven either, the Porsche seems like a no-brainer.

Very different cars. Do you want sporty or GT? The Maserati is a fantastic car - basically a 550 Maranello (bit heavier, bit less power) with an extra seat in the back, and the 911 we don't have to explain. If you have kids, the Maserati is the better choice. I also like it for its more refined and more exclusive image. However, even though Maseratis are becoming more popular, depreciation will be big and the build quality (although good) can't match the 911's. I like to be different, would go with the Maser. If you want the safe option, take the 911. With the wide wheels, neither is great in the snow though. The 4-wheel drive of the Porsche will help.

Can't go wrong with either, though. Looks like 2009 will be a nice year for you!

+1. The 911 c4 w/ snow shoes is very good in light to medium snow.

I have a 997 Carrera 4S that i drive year round. 16k miles a year. Car is great fun, reliable and doesnt attract too much attention. Porsche Service has been great. Only complain are the tyres and the potholes in Chicago. 4 flats in 2 years.
GPS is superb. Seats are comfy but not back seats. Maser has more leg room if you need to transport 4 adults for more than 5 miles. Maser looks better. Granturismo S sounds amazing. Big question is depreciation...
