Though I love to drive Ferraris, I don't think of them as convenient daily drivers. My question is, from your own experiences..what is the best full size sedan out there, day in and day out?

I have driven a few Mercedes and BMW's in my time. I also even drove a Rolls Royce for a while. To me, Rolls are too showy and not sporty in the least bit, and the mercedes I drove, the 600 SEL etc...likewise. I switched to a BMW 750 in the mid 90's and i currently drive a 2001 750 iL. It just turned 50,000 miles and everything seems to be falling apart...the radiator leaks, and had to replaced, the check engine light came on and i have to replace valves, catalytic converters etc...and it seems that i would be nothing but trouble.

Any suggestions? I have looked at the top of the line Lexus...but have no feel for it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions out there.

Audi A8: Don't see them everywhere/everyday like the Merc or BMW and they are great drivers. They don't feel as large as they actually are.

BMW M5? though it's smaller than the 750, it's an amazing sedan (as has been discussed numerous times in these threads)

Coach, I just brought a 2006 MB C55 for $52K, and I love it. Just the right size. Steel, not hydraulic springs. The car feels more planted than either the new BMW 3 or 5, and you gotta love a V8. :)

Wait for the new Lexus LS, it should launch next year. From what I have read, it is going to be a really impressive car with a Maybach like backseat option. Great, but it more than likley would not be fun to drive and will look like a toyota (go figure.) I would recommend an S class or 7 Series. They are great day in and day out, but are expensive for repairs and not all that reliable. Also consider the Audi A8. May I ask what your price range is? New or used?

Maserati QP for a little fun and high style

MB E Series if you can tolerate the marginal build quality

BMW 5 Series if you can tolerate the Bangle styling

STS in 8 cylinder and AWD guise is a very nice ride, better looking than a 5 series, but I am not sold on the front end design

Mercedes and BMW build quality seems to have taken a nose dive the past few years.

Lexus might not be as flashy as the previous, but the quality and reliability is 10X better. I kinda like the new GS. Also lighter on your wallet paying for other peoples lack of respect and/or driving skills.

My dad just bought an 06 S600 with a 138k window sticker for $87k BRAND NEW with delivery miles on it from the local dealer. If you don't mind the old body style it is an amazing deal and these cars are still left out there he was offered an S65 brand new 06 for $122k which is over $50k off sticker, but again it is the old body style.

Ferrari 400i. Seriously though, it depends what you want. I've driven a BMW (7), Merc (S/E/C/CLS...), and QP. I've never driven the A8, although I do like the A4/6. I really like the E-class, esp. the E55 overall though. I know several on the board own one (and have good reviews) but from first impressions it's impressive.

Wow, this topic recurs so frequently. :)

If you want real performance with a low budget and fair practicality, go for a Subaru WRX STi or a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

I have used a BMW M5 as my daily driver since 2000...an e39 for 111k+ miles and now my e60 which I have driven 7k+ miles had since March. The Bangle styling on the new M5 looks stunning, they are very fast, handle great, are very reliable, have enough luxury to satisfy anyone and will seat 5 as needed...there is no better sports sedan IMHO...

I've had many sedans, Including the 750Il which I loved for its 12 cylinders. However, I sold it and got a new 745 LI which was also great. A little less power but still a great car. That was until I bought a 98 F355 Spider which is now my daily driver. No problems and a whole lot more fun than anything I own. Still have the 745 Li for the rainy days.
