Thanks guys.....As long as I've had my D50, I feel like I haven't really used it, lol. I've just been using the auto mode this whole time...Someday I'll try and learn all the features, lol.
Still on vacation. I wandered out for a little hike today and snapped a few pics of the snowy wonderland......... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmmm... looks like that on this side of the states as well! Shiny Side Up! Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login
I found some old photos of my hometown from 1865. I went out and took photos from the same angles last weekend: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
When I was in the churchyard, I found this old headstone with my name on it... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Parallax distortion. My zoom was set at a fairly wide angle, and short focal lengths are what cause it. I need to go back and take that shot of the church from further away with a longer lens (like an 85 or 105mm). That will fix the problem. It's not as noticeable in the last shot, which is fortunate since I can't get any further away. Cheers!
To further this discussion, the old-fashioned cameras (that these old photos were taken with) used a very large film plate. This means that they were able to use long focal length lenses (with low distortion) and still take in a very large field of view. 35mm cameras (with their much smaller film) are not nearly so good, and digital SLRs, which (for the most part) have an even smaller "film" area are worse yet in terms of parallax when it comes to trying to take in a wide angle shot. The only way around it is to back up (if one can) and use a longer lens. I would go back out and try it today, except that it's raining...
