It is always hard for a car manufacturer to maintain the momentum for a separate brand name. Here's a list of manufacturers that tried it and later gave up after a relatively short period of time: - Jeep with Eagle - GM with Saturn and Geo (and I guess Hummer too) - Ford with Merkur and Edsel Sometimes it works, e.g. Toyota with Scion and Lexus, Honda with Acura, Nissan with Infiniti, etc. And whatever happened to that "Dino" brand from years ago?
LOL William.....!! Well this news should do wonders for resale value.......... Oh wait. We're talking about Maybach here.....they already have no resale value. Guess you've got nothing to lose if your actions will only affect the 600 past customers who actually bought one of these.
I never heard of the Maybach car brand that they were named after, so I never really understood the point of branding Mercedes as Maybach. The Mercedes brand name itself I think would of been better. They were making much more well known(to me) cars back in the same era. I'd recognize a W125 or SSK as a kid, but a Maybach? Not really going to miss these.
Oh well, it was bound to happen. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Who wants to be associated with these guys.... Anyway, always said it was an overprices S class, about time IMHO...
ive always liked them. lots of neat items, understated looks, etc. not sure if id take one over a phantom though. Well, the laudette (sp?) i would
The economy wasn't tanking in 2003 but MB should have realized resurrecting a dinosaur was a short term proposition. The second hand Phaeton brigade will be wringing their hands. The news will certainly accelerate their meteoric depreciation, could be one of the best bargains of all time. Great car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
There weren`t many Maybach automobiles. They were built from 1921 to 1941 only. But Wilhelm Maybach played an important role in Daimler-Benz`s history. His parents died early and therefore he stayed at an orphanage for 13 years. Gottlieb Daimler met him there. Maybach became his assistant and followed him throughout his whole career. Too much to translate everything. BMW and Rolls-Royce too. But Mercedes and the reanimated Maybach didn`t. Though it could have if it had been done the right way. One of many mistakes by Mr. Schrempp. So glad Daimler finally got rid of him.
Was a good concept on paper, but beyond the over the top launch, Daimler only half assed supported the brand.
