    Absolutely!

I was looking for it on TV but haven't seen anything so far. Anybody?

All I heard was that yet again one of the motorcycle guys got killed. It was supposed to be his last race. Well, now it is. Sadly.

OLN is another DirecTV channel -- 609 or something like that. Coverage at 9 or 9:30 pm and again 3 hours later.

They've only done the first day so far. Alas, their coverage is somewhat tunnel visioned toward the US (Red Bull, VW) entries.

And they don't have that wollok theme song, either.

Thanks guys for posting all of this. I would have never checked OLN for anything racing related but thanks to you guys I was able to watch it last night (and 2nd part tonight).

I agree, way too much focused on the also-run Americans. Who cares? And they are really very proud of that logo, which lasts forever and shows up every five seconds. Oh well, complaints, complaints.

62 250 GTO: Thanks for your insights. I haven't followed Paris-Dakar for some years, so what happened to it? This obviously has a slightly different name and started out in Barcelona (not that it really mattered). I remember the original inventor of the Paris-Dakar rally died in a helicopter crash in the rally, is that why they changed the name etc?

Dakar is without a doubt one of the coolest races in the world. I'd add to the list the Isle of Man TT and the Whitbread (Volvo) around the world yacht race.

OLN's coverage has been good, and thank god somebody is showing it, but SPEED did a better job last year. Either way, the footage is spectacular. I'd love for a DVD to be available. I checked the site and all they have a region 2, French language version of the 2004 event, not very useful.

    Mon francais suffit pour comprendre.
    :)

You probably also have to deal with SECAM (France!) vs NTSC, but there are ways around that too. How do I know? "La Passione" ordered from Amazon UK.

    LOL

Sylvia Kristel, passion of my high school dreams...

Nah, "La Passione" is actually a great little flick about a fictional poor British kid who grows up living the Ferrari dream to become a millionaire and realize his passion. Has amazing footage of Chris Rea's 156 Sharknose F1 replica and other Ferraris. There is one hilarious scene where he gets the rights to a long gone Ferrari. He pays gazillions of bucks and flies to see the "car". They open the garage door and you see a rusty pile of "junk". Anybody who restored a famous Ferrari probably feels an instant bond with that scene.

Or in other words: A movie important enough to me to go through the technical pain of transferring from different formats etc...Just like an Emanuelle in Bangkok movie.
    :)
