Will he join up with the GMP? It would be really neat if he decided to race in Silverstone this Sunday. Damon Hill hasn't been confirmed for the race Sunday but he will be in free practice tomorrow. If he did choose to run, that would be a great race. Some of the other GPM drivers (can contract for one or all races) include, Mansell, Arnoux, Fittipaldi, Prost, Tambay, Danner, Lammers, van de Poele, Stuck, Johansson, Cheever, Salazar, de Cesaris. This is racing on equal terms. Egines are a 3.3 liter V-8 Nicholson McLaren Cosworth putting out 600+ bhp, six-speed paddle shifting; stable aero platform maximizing driver input and overtaking; minimal electronic driver aids. Driver requirements include: 45 years old +, in F1 for 2 seasons, retired from open wheel racing. Fan friendly too . . . a grandstand ticket holder - Saturday/Sunday grandstand ticket in Silverstone this weekend is GBP 60 - also has paddock access from 9 - 12 on Saturday. This is but the second race of three - first being in Qatar in April (1st - Mansell, 2nd- Danner, 3rd van de Poele) and the third is Kyalami in November. I hope Damon decides to race - that would surely be a good one. Carol
Graham Hill gave F1 the image of class and elegance. It looks like Damon is now trying to emulate his father's movie star appearance, but it makes me wonder if Graham is really Damon's father, or is he the result of a one night stand with George Harrison? I always thought that he looked a lot like George Harrison. By the way, is Prost going to race for sure?
He hasn't shown up for the first two races, and Mansell whined that the reason Prost didn't was because he didn't get extra time with the car. Mansell really thinks that Prost is a Mag Pie.
lol. Man, I miss those days. I was just getting old enough at the end of this era to keep track of F1 (here and there). Piquet calling Senna gay. Mansell saying Piquet's a b!tch. Prost quietly winning almost everything. The GPM is a shame b/c it's a slap in the face at how far things have gone awry with the current F1. Even the thrown together GPM with over-the-hill drivers has a more interesting storyline. I know it's a result of us looking at this with the past in mind, but nevertheless.
Piquet really was a trouble maker, the exact quote was, "Mansell is an uneducated block head married to a stupid and ugly wife." He also called Enzo Ferrari Senile, Prost a pest, and Senna gay.
Oh, and where do you expect SpeedTV to squeeze it in? Cancel one of it's 5 daily airings of NBS 24/7? Or do you, sir, wish to be the one to tell the legions of fans of the show "Pinks" that it will now only be seen 4 times a week so the F1 fans can be indulged with another 10 hours of viewing---per year! The nerve
It is interesting that it was not penthouse who Piquet gave the interview to but Brasilian Playboy. His remark was Senna really doesn't like Girls. The reason for Piquet's comment was that he was dating and later had a child with the woman that Senna had been dating (he basically showed her the curb). At the time, Senna was going to take Legal action on it, but as Ron Dennis and Marlboro told him, why give the guy the time of day.
Sorry for mixing up the mags. Wasn't Senna married/dated Xuxa? Some Brazilian TV starlett. Not to berate the point, but Senna was never known for chasing the girls, which added to the Piquet rumors. Correct me if I'm wrong pls.
Senna in fact dated almost exclusively Brasilian women. He and Xuxa dated for a while, but because of career paths it never worked out. The woman in question was a Dutch Model that dated Ayrton and later Piquet (with whom they had a child). Ayrton was very serious prior to his death with Adrianne Galisteau who was living with him. But no the guy was not a womanizer like your Buddy Eddie Irvine, James Hunt, Piquet. He was rather a shy fellow.
Ah. I can't say that it tainted Senna's image forever. What I remember is the way Senna chose racing over his wife. Piquet was a good driver--you have to be to win 3 Championships--but he's always struck me as the type who definitely benefitted from top machinery. And the type who could use a good ass-whoopin.
I'm not exactly sure but I thought Damon isn't eligible for Grand Prix Masters until next year as he is not old enough.
Once in a while somebody asks me whether the gay rumours were true. And I never had a good answer, so I'm glad Senna1994 cleared a few things up on here. I wish Senna had actually taken Piquet to court. I really think that article tarnished his reputation and it might have been a bigger deal if it hadn't been eventually overshadowed by his sudden death. Since we're on such a lovely topic: Let's discuss Ralfie, shall we?
His wife, Lilliane, was not interested in living in Europe which caused him to have to chose between her and racing in the first place. She hated England when he was in the lower formulas and eventually withdrew back to Brazil. It was either chose his life passion, racing at its highest level, or her. Quite frankly, any woman who asks you to sacrifice the essence of your being for her is not worth her salt IMO. This is all besides the obvious, that he stood to make absolutely ludicrous amounts of money in F1. edit: In his book he notes as well that the goal of a complete driver is to turn everything into routine. To paraphrase "When that is achieved, making love to a woman the night before a race is no longer an issue. You either do, or you don't, but it should not fluster you either way come to the race because everything in your routine has become automatic."
Well put, after being a Prima Dona at Brahbam, he couldn't get over the fact that his teammate Mansell was just as fast and a better racer....
