With all the focus on #metoo and female actors cleaning up at the Golden Globe awards.....I'm surprised she doesn't have a ride for at least Daytona. She hasn't said anything about US politics which is smart. I also don't see her driving for a no-name team...since that would be a major image drop.

    Just read that article.

It seems Miss Danica is demanding seven figure appearance fees for both Daytonner and Indy.

Not a surprise since she her sponsors/advertisers would benefit from the airtime she would receive. I know she has her haters and her driving skills unfortunately have not gotten better over time but she does bring fans to racing. IMHO she does better on a track when she is by herself which is why she started well at Indy races and won the pole at the 2013 Daytona race. She is not good in traffic where the races are won in NASCAR.

Not to be argumentative, rather, just to point out an observation...I have met no one in my travels that have become a racing fan because of her. 'Casual curious at best which means nothing in the grand scheme of things for sanctioning bodies.

    Let's be real here...

Danica was nothing more than NASCAR's headline grabbing and 24/7 media attention demanding
PR machine shifted into overdrive from the time she arrived in Grand National (or whatever they call it now).

Danica's whole entrance into NASCAR was little more than a short sighted PR stunt. And, while she
may have become wealthy from all this, once she is no longer part of NASCAR's PR jaggernaught,
she becomes expendable, highlighted by the fact that it seems NASCAR is not lifting a finger to
get her into a ride for the Daytonner 514.

Danica's pole position at Daytonner in 2013 was a joke, everyone knows it, as we've seen subsequently,
whomever is NASCAR's flavor of the month is (usually an up and coming fresh faced rookie that NASCAR is
promoting) by some miracle wins pole at their blue ribband event assuring melancholy media coverage which
of course, the spoon fed media eat up in a blur.

Nothing wrong with fresh faces in racing, it's the life blood of the sport. But, to make virtual rookies into
saints (the next Petty, the next Earnhardt, the next Gordon, et.al.) is wrong sighted and when has reality ever really met expectations?

It's just my opinion but racing and major sports are about entertainment. The purity of all professional sports left the building a long time ago and is not coming back. The owners need advertisers to make professional sports work financially. The advertisers want as much exposure as they can get. No advertiser wants a single dimensional demographic.....it is just not sustainable.

    Valid for certain.
However, for the "entertainment" to endure (in this case different forms of auto raing), there must be true performers, not just "pretty faces" (as in your single dimensional demographic). Otherwise the real fan base (auto racing fans, not the "casual curious" that come and go) will disembark...

I know not of expectations for Danica except from those that don't really know racing. I never saw a background that "predicted" an accomplished driver. Her Formula Atlantic gig indicated otherwise. I saw it as a publicity stunt by Bobby from the get go.

Mario, Ayrton, Michael...just the most obvious (plus your three) for starters. Any other questions? :p :D

Using analogies to other series where the driving disciplines are totally different (apples to rocks really) not really what
    the thread is about.

NASCAR, and this is about NASCAR, brings along these young drivers in order keep the media's attention. Which
ever of them clicks the boxes in Grand National, get the nod to move into Cup. That's okay, but to make these kids
the next king is short sighted and building false expectations.

Danica was and likely always will be a media driven sensation and her world collided with NASCAR until they were
no longer useful to each other. My guess is she'll end up in the commentary booth or with her own day time talk
    show eventually.

But with her and Jr. Jr. Jr. out of it now, who will step in the NASCAR media vacuum?

Maybe we can get some kind of a draw-down going? You agree to one less "Jr." or "Daytonner" and Bandini agrees to lighten up on the emoticons?

I disagree with most of what you said.
Let's forget Danica is a female for a minute.

When you get into racing, what gets you a seat (TODAY) is money.
Money can be with a car - and that money decides who gets in the seat.
Money can come with a driver - and that money decides what seat said driver can get in.
It makes no difference if it is a male or female - money is almost always the deciding factor.
Money decides where most of us have a job, racing is no different.
I don't think her pole at Daytona was a fluke, sometimes people hit the perfect combination and also
drive the perfect lap, to think ANY of the other drivers were not trying for the same thing is just dumb.
Where I think nascar welcomed her with open arms is a fact, I am not so sure they bent over backwards to get her there.
Look at JP Montoya - he did not fare much better than Danica - most folks expected him to dominate (and win)
every road course they were on, and that never happened.
A few 'road course specialists' happened upon nascar over the last 10 years, few ever 'did anything'.

I think she did OK, but because of where she circulated in the races - mid-pack - she did get caught up
in more wrecks than seems normal, I will give you that.

On the surface you can say she was a PR stunt, or a joke, but if you understand racing you
know her efforts were much deeper than that.

No, she didn't do as well as most folks think she should have, but there are MANY guys droning around
that have done the same or less over the last 5-6 years as well... and I think I'd be a little pissy myself, with
most everyone doubting me or having their sights set on me.
