IRL this year is a formula of virtually identical cars. So little Danica goes out an qualifies third for Sunday's race in Homestead. Not bad. She has talent, for anyone to say she doesn't, just has no f****** concept.
She belongs in CART! She is road racer not an openwheeled Nascar racer. She always liked F1 and I believe aspired to be in F1, but I think the bright lights of names such as Rahal and Letterman blinded her way.
She is a racecar driver, I'll give her that. She has a talent, but is not in the same category as a Sam Hornish, Tony Kanaan, or some of the other current IRL standouts. She tends to qualify well, but falls back rapidly once underway. Hopefully this year she will improve her race performances, and not allow the IRL to capitalize on her gender (seems that Gene Simmons will get all the attention this year, and that's not a good thing either..) And after the merger, Danica will get the opportunity to finish behind Katherine Legge numerous times.. Todd
I guess when She seen Her team mate parked on the side of the road at the Glen and panicked and killed the car, That was tallent too!
She does fine when she's on the track by herself. Unfortunatly, she has to drive among other drivers when racing. She would be points leader if Indy was a solo timed event. She has no talent.
So, to everyone who thinks Danica has no talent (which I'm SURE isn't sexist-based) then let's see your list. You're obviously upset that she has taken the seat of a much worthier IRL driver. Who you got in mind? Granted, I don't think she's at the level of Kanaan or Wheldon. But honestly, after those two, and maybe a couple I'm forgetting, who's better? If you want to waste your time criticizing an IRL driver, may I offer up Tomas Scheckter. He's been given more opportunity than anyone deserves. No wonder the F1 boys were happy to be rid of him.
I don't follow IRL. She has never won in IRL, correct? She was not even in the top ten in points in IRL last year, correct? Did she win in the lower level series from which she progressed to IRL?
This is her second season in IRL, she was Rookie of the year last year. In Toyota Atlantics she had a string of podium finishes but no wins. (Yes you can argue about her skills, but the TA class of that year was possibly the toughest.) She had a good qualifying position today, sadly the tragic events of final practice meant she couldn't capitalize on it. I hope she and Buddy Rice can carry on and get some wins during the remaining races. Does she have a superior car this year? Actually no, the Panoz chassis is considered to be quite a bit inferior to Dallara. (RLR are the only team running Panoz this year.)
I think there is some sexism involved - but I would argue that it may be more towards her getting a shot because she makes a good news story rather than raw talent. Is she good enough to be in IRL? Probably. Is she better than some of the other guys on the grid? Probably. Did she get on the fast track to IRL because an attractive young girl makes great headlines? Come on - anyone naieve enough to dispute that? Should that be held against her? Of course not - so long as she's not sleeping with her team bosses who cares how she gets ahead? Everyone maximizes their opportunities, I just think she probably got a bit more opportunity due to her appearance and gender Just my .02
Well, here are some career IRL stats for comparison: Driver Starts Top 10 Poles Races Finished Danica 18 7 (39%) 3 (17%) 17 (94%) Franchitti 38 24 (63%) 2 (5%) 28 (74%) Kanaan 51 42 (82%) 6 (12%) 43 (84%) Sharp 116 65 (56%) 5 (4%) 84 (72%) Scheckter 62 23 (37%) 8 (13%) 31 (50%) She finished 12th in points her rookie season, only a couple behind 11th and only 50 out of 10th. So if she sucks, then I guess that doesn't say much for the other 2/3 of the drivers.
Absolutely. I just think it's funny to hear how many guys byatch and moan about her, when this is what goes on everywhere. Would Ralf Schumacher EVER have come within a sniff of an F1 ride were it not for his last name? No. ***kin. Way. If anyone should be bitter it's Sarah Fisher. Basically, all this tells her is she wasn't pretty enough to stay in the IRL. She was mediocre enough to race in the IRL. But her face wasn't marketable enough. So...
Actually Sarah Fisher is rumored to campaign the 500 this year. It'll be interesting to say the least now that she won't have an "inferior" car. (All Honda motors, 90% are Dallara chassis.)
That is like saying Rubens B and others in F1 that took years to win their first race have no talent. To make it into an Indy car and get paid for it speaks for a lot of talent. I wish I had half of her talent.
