Daniel Schmitt and Co. - an outfit known for offering crappy, exotic cars with NO Documentation at high prices and often NOT as described - now proudly offers crappy, overpriced replicas too!! For a limited time only, get yourself the Corvette-based Testarossa!!

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-FERRARI-TESTAROSSA-CONVERTIBLE-REPLICAR-LOW-MILES-/390284512656?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item5adec50d90

Just when you thought they couldn't lower their standards any more, they continue to set new standards in the industry!

But wait, the Ebay ad says it is STUNNING. Not just stunning, but STUNNING. That, my friends, is the distinction between merely gaudy to truly gaudy.

Yeah but that's with exotics. It seems that screwing people on replicas seems even lower. They are already starting off well with a $36k Buy It Now price. Hilarious that you can get a real TR for $36k these days. But why would you want a real one when you can get this one that was $77k NEW back in 1989.

You'll be stunned alright. Stunned as to how comfy those overstuffed, padded seats are!

I think that is a Texas Instruments scientific calculator integrated into the horn pad. Or possibly an early prototype of a Querty keyboard for text messaging.

Horrible looking replica at that....there are a few angles that look ok, but thats about it. Most of it is really badly done. Add that to a 230hp TPI 350 under the hood and it might sound kinda cool, but wont have a ton of power and will likely get beaten by the vtaaaak honda in the next lane...adding insult to injury.

    Maybe the ad should read

"Buy this car, look like a real poseur!!"

I especially like the seats; probably taken out of the person's den back in 1992 and stuck directly into the car. Probably adds to the maintenance costs though...when the stuffing loses its fluffiness, it would probably cost as much as a major to refill them! ;)

I haven't viewed the ad and won't. Icalled some time ago about a car. I told the sales manager that I was a real buyer. That I wouldn't counter. That I wanted a take it or leave it price. And that when offered under such conditions, I would take 90% of the deals.

The manager said "we don't work that way." I would say they don't work smart.

I love the exquisite burled wood interior. Reminiscent of many Ferrari models.

Amazing that someone could be duped into buying such a poj when they could buy a 3x8 for about the same money. Well then again maybe no one will by it...

    +100.

The thing that gets to me about replicars that aren't Ferrari-based is how the builders slap shields, badges, Ferrari trunk script, and similar stuff all over them.

I've mixed feelings about Ferrari-based replicas:

    Trash a viable 330 2+2 or 250 GTE for a replica...big No-No.

Taking a car that's totaled or otherwise economically not feasible to repair/restore and turning it into a replica is preferable to parting it out.

My first wish for #5409 is to see it restored by someone with excellent bodywork skills; if not, I sincerely hope to see it return well-rebodied.

    Looks better than a standard C4. :D

That steering wheel is awful but I'll be darned if those seats don't look La-Z-Boy comfy!

What are those things on the steering wheel? Buttons? If someone buys this, they will be the laughing stock of the town.

I saw that abomination on ebay too....and almost threw up! I hate these cheesy attempts at a replica, I thought a replica is supposed to look like the real thing. I don't mind a "recreation" or "tribute" car that is done to a high standard...but this???? What really disturbes me more is that many people who don't know cars may actually thing it's a real Ferrari....(OMG!)

We have a fake Countach here in our small town, and when it's running about...people are all buzzing about the Lambo they saw in traffic! At an evening cruise up town...my nephew called me to say "it" was out, and the owner was saying it was real. It was my bed time....but I just couldn't let this "shyster" push his load of bull on an unsuspecting public...so I got the Testarossa out and went up town to meet a "fellow Italian car enthusiast". Word somehow got to him before I did....and by the time I showed up they all said he took off in a hurry....with all 6 cylinders screeming! Some day.....some day.....

Please find that guy in his car someday and get video of him saying it is real. At least some good pics. Then destroy him and post here (and Jalopnik). It is truly a dream of mine to find a guy claiming he has a real exotic when it is fake and expose him.

Those seats do look nice. Just a bolt on kit. Still looks more like a Corvette than a Ferrari. At least it has an Interstate battery. Appears to be in generally good condition but not sure what it would be used for. I'd have to remove all the badging, that's just embarrasing.
