She has done better than the GUY that finished right behind her ... and he's probably had the same training, etc.

Knock if you want, but it really is weak.

The problem I have with her is two-fold:

    1) She is wasting a seat and sucking up resources that by right should go to a more deserving driver. She has the best car on the grid and she is doing nothing with it, other than being beaten by all 3 teammates, including a complete novice. She is on her 5th season in Indycars and still being blown away by a rookie?!? A Japanese pay-driver at that?!?

    2) She is setting back legitimate female drivers by sustaining the stereotype that a woman is only worth what she looks like and not what she can do. Sarah Fisher is 10X the driver that Danica is, unfortunately for her she has the face of a horse and hence can't attract sponsorship to save her life. Put her in Danica's car and I guarantee better results.

I don't want my daughter's role models to be women who get by on their looks, I want her to look up to women that compete with men on equal footing and succeed on merit, not appearance. Reinforcing the stereotype that looks are what she needs to get ahead does her, and other young impressionable girls, no good. Danica has set back women in motorsports 20 years easily. She is the Anna Kournikova of motorsports, all T&A and no results.

+1...Danika may be a mid-packer, but that still means she beats HALF the field. 50% - often, all male drivers. Absolutely no shame in that at all. Some races she comes out ahead of that 50%, some races behind, but she's no backmarker by a longshot - and that isn't just the car. Her racing is consistent, skilled, and she's proven time and again to bring the car across the finish line race-after-race without hitting the wall or another car along the way. From a team owner/sponsor perspective, that alone is marketable and adds value to the team.

I've always thought she was pretty cool, and certainly not a "two bagger" by any means. I liked it when she was on Spike TV doing introductions to those gear head programs....she did a good job. She does have an attitude, but it would be hard NOT to have one knowing that your going against a long-established "old boy" network. I'm sure there are lots of things that go on behind the scenes that we don't know about, that make her life more difficult than it should be. She has brought lots of attention to the Indy racing, when it was near death, and practically put Indy back on the map again. She is still very young with lots to learn.

I like her, and say more power to her! Go Danika!!!!!

I have two young daughters who are girlie girls and aren't that interested in cars or motorsports, they are interested in fairies and Disney princesses. But when they see Danica they look up and take notice. It doesn't say you have to be a babe to get the press to them, it says you can look pretty and do something that is not a "traditional" woman's role. It would not be the same if she looked like a troglidite.

And some folks here may think she is not the hottest thing on the planet, to each his own. But then in the same breath they say she only gets press because she's hot...

Oh, and racing is not just about winning, it is entertainment, and it's about sponsorship. Manufacturers race to win and sell cars. Sponsors want exposure. If it comes in the winners circle, great. Read Lolaman's comments and godaddy.com. I bet they don't give a hoot that she hasn't won, she's getting the job done better than the rest.

If Massa consistently finished 11th every GP in the Ferrari, would you be making the same argument-at least he is better than half the field?!?

In identical equipment, she is consistently beaten by her own teammates, including a Japanese pay driver. How long would Massa last if he were being consistently beaten by Ide or Nakajima?

The fact remains than Danica HAS NEVER WON A SINGLE AUTO RACE IN HER CAREER. You can cite all the statistics you want...she has NEVER WON.

Exactly! Beating half the field when you have top 5% equipment is nothing to be proud of.

No...too busy listening to an old Tom Petty song "even the losers,......get lucky sometimes" :) Personally she is a decent driver...but just another in a long line who probably wont win a championship of any kind. She can sure sell automotive products and SI editions though :)

Don't make me puke. She won a gas mileage race. All the leaders pitted for fuel and she was slow enough that she conserved enough fuel so as not to have to pit.

And how many races are won this way?? I can name a few, like LeMans, Sebring, Indy 500, Daytona 500, gas mileage is a big part of this racing game. Pretty much 50% of all races come down to mileage, so give it a break, she won this in the same manner as her male counterparts would have if their pit crews had the same foresight.

Danica deserved this, she beat the other drivers, the male drivers, fair and square.
